Sorry Risk, you now wont be able to buy Carp for at least 6 more years because he signed a 5 year extension worth about $65 million. What a Deal!!! $13 Mill for the best pitcher in the NL.

Oh well.........guess we'll have to wait for some of those Tiger cubs to grow up and adopt them

then all you will need is a Bronx Kitty Litter Box

Riskkid, it looks like Suppan will be available. :-/ With the deep pockets y'all have he may be a good buy.

Hey guys....here's something we'll all get a HEE HAW out of....found it on ESPN's site:

"The agent also said that Barry Bonds would much rather stay in San Francisco than sign with Oakland. "He doesn't want to drive across the Bay, he doesn't want to play in a dilapidated stadium, and he doesn't want to wear the white shoes," the agent said."

I'd like to see him in the girl clothes that he wore in spring training with the white shoes

Might be better than the Big Units assisted living facility

Hmmmmmm....

The Yankees have a ton of good major-league-ready pitching in Columbus. They don't need another aging starter. If course, I still remember the Suppan who stunk it up with the Red Sox early in his career and, as I recall, in the 2004 World Series.

I am not a big jeff suppan fan. He has not pitched great for the Cards except the second half of this season and the playoffs. He will get a way too high contract for some team that is so desperate for pitching that they will spend a lot for a little. (teams like the rangers esp. if they dont get zito) I cant stand bonds, I wish he would just retire and get it over with. I think the Cards will get one of those great tiger cubs in a couple years and mess him up like they did with Weaver.

Hey Bassmata7 if your not sold on Suppan how'd you like to have to put up with Pedro :o

I love Pedro. Or did. He just needs a manager to protect him from Pedro.

OK muddy, we will resign Soup and trade him for Pedro. I wish you were the Mets GM.

Oh, c'mon, you're gonna dis Omar like that?  You Mets fans would have nothing in the last couple years without Minaya running the team...  Not that Muddy wouldn't be a good GM...

Suppan was not terrible in the 2004 World Series. He did give up 4 runs to a very good Boston offense that was on a roll. Don't forget that he outpitched Clemens in the 2004 NLCS to send the Cards to the series in the first place.

If Suppan wants to be a Cardinal, he'll accept arbitration. If all he wants is the biggest paycheck possible he'll probably sign with the Yankees and they can have each other.

I agree with DMB here about Sup. He is a good pitcher in Saint Louis. Dunc knows just what to do to get the most out of him. Also, his style of pitching florishes here due to the better than average offense and strong defensive play. Put him in a situation where the team struggles to score runs or the defense is suspect and he is gonna get roughed up. I like Sup, I hope he stays, but I think he will end up elsewhere. The Cards just don't have the money to resign him. I would rather have Sup than Weaver, if I had to make a choice between those two.

If Minaya is as good as everyone claims he is (and don't get me wrong, he is doing well with the Mets) then he better do whetever needs to be done to get Barry Zito. Zito would fit the best there.

If Suppan is smart, he will go out there and get that money. It will be a lot more than he is worth. His value has never been higher and I think he will go get that money. That's fine, the cards can find someone else. I am interested in what is going on with Mark Mulder. My guess is he will sign a cheap 1 year deal to prove he still has it and then next year he will get a gigantic salary. I think Minaya has done a great job with the mets in such little time. I think their previous GM was Steve Phillips. I think he was pretty bad. He had a couple good years but I dont think that was really with his guys. Then he made some horrible free agent pick ups, Mo Vaughn and Roberto Alomar. The guys were always hurt and didnt play great when they were healthy. Who do you guys think the top GMs are in baseball.

1. John Shuerholz- Braves GM

2. Terry Ryan- Twins GM (i'll admit I had to look his name up)

3. Walt Jockety- Cards GM

4. Billy Beane- A's GM

5. Theo Epstein- Red Sox GM

First off I havent been posting much b/c the Mets have been pretty inactive. I would absolutley tank it as a GM, I dont have the patience to do the job correctly. Minya is the best GM we have had since Cashen.

Now my concern BORAS is at it again hes using one team to boost the pot ahen he will go to another to fatten the deal I hope Minya doesnt go nuts and sign Zito for all that cash. We need 3 starters Pedro, is getting older and cant paly hurt, Glavine is going back to Atlanta and el Dueqe is still up in the air. I really despise Boras and hes running the same play you would think the GM's would run a better defense against him ;)

This is a excerpt from an article Dayn Perry recently wrote on "deals that need to get done". Number 3 on his list is Zito to the Mets and it makes perfect sense...and I do mean perfect.

"Barry Zito is an overrated talent, but he makes sense for the Mets, who badly need a reliable innings guy in the rotation. Zito has never been on the disabled list in his career, and he's logged at least 213 innings in each of the last six seasons.

Zito's prone to the longball, but Shea is a brutal park for power hitters (particularly right-handed power hitters) and will help to mask that deficiency. If Zito winds up a Cub or Ranger, he's going to get lit up. For Zito to succeed his home park needs to be a pitcher's environment. The Mets need durability, and Zito needs a forgiving park and a slick defensive outfield. It's a match."

On that list, I'd have to say Billy Beane. They win like the Cardinals, with the Royal's budget.

Epstein is the most overrated based soley on paying JD Drew $70 million for 5 years. C'mon!

I would agree with that assessment of Epstein. He's just another big market moneyball GM with Yankee ***...he wishes he could spend that kind of scratch.

I agree with that list, maybe not in that exact order, but some semblence of that list. I'd add the GM of the Chicago White Sox, Kenny Williams to it. He constructed a pretty nasty rotation for a budget even lower than the Cardinals have. I judge a great GM by a few things. 1) How much money does he have to spend to build a winning team. 2) How good is he at helping keep his players happy, content, and staying put.

Theo Epstein doesnt usually make a lot of highly rated free agent signings but when he does they almost always produce for him. Yay, my favorite player on my least favorite team. I do think Epstein made a mistake on Drew. My guess is that he plays 3 years for the sox then they trade him or something. He is a bad fit in Boston. Of those three years he wont be completely healthy for 1.

Disconcerting is right :-? We know Duncun is good, but he is not THAT good.

I dont care who wrote what Zito to the mets for suicide money::: is a deal that is whats wrong about baseball. We need 3 starters for good money not a questionable underacheiver for Boras dollars. It makes no sense and from how Minya has been I dont think hes gonna pull the trigger.

All the experts said Arod is the premier marquee plyer that the Yankees needed and what a shame he makes more than Jeter he makes more than Puljos and Albert is a far greater player. But the experts and writers fan the flames for guys like Boras and its really bad for both the Mets and the Game

My.02 I remeber Billie Bean,Abner Doubleday,Doug Sisk and a host of other unproven and questionable failures that wore Mets uniforms, I just dont happen to be a Newspaper reporter :P
