Man, what a freakin' DRAG !!!!

My computer just crashed hard core. The only thing I could do was restore it to FACTORY. I'm so bummed. I lost 10+ gigs of music. Countless contacts in my outlook address books. I lost all the pictures of my girlfriend and I from the beginning of our relationship. Most importantly, I lostt 400+ pictures that chronicled the last year of fishing. I lost ten pictures of my PB that I will never get back. The only ones that I have are the ones on the internet, and they have been cropped with the back ground blacked out. So many memories lost into the intangible techno-space. Not to mention all of my settings and programs. It is such a freakin bummer. I am so ticked I can't even stand it. I guess I'm gonna have to stick a ten to ease the pain!

P.S. It is a good thing that this is such a well moderated site. The last couple hours have featured the less than articulate side of my vocabulary! Rant OVER and Fourbizzle OUT!

Oh I feelin you 4biz :-? Let's look at the plus side Now you can add at least 6oz to every fish you caught last year ;)

Thats why you need to purchase an external hard drive to copy everything over too incase your main hard drive takes a crap on your floor.

I just burn all my stuff to cds. I have all my info on like three or four cds. I can also fit like 900 songs on 5 cds. Each 700mb cd is holding like 200 songs. Iam sure you can fit more on there. But i can relate my computer crashed a few months ago. I needed a new hard drive. Take it in and see if you can get any thing off the hard drive. Mine was toast so they didn't even try to get any thing off the hard drive.

I agree with Tipp - you may be able to retreive some information, talk to an IT guy to see who can possibly help.

That really sucks man!

Yep.  Happened to me one too many times.  Now everything is backed up on DVD's and I purchased on external hard drive (great buy).

I bought an external drive in december....too bad it was my brothers christmas present >:(

What a drag, good luck getting some of that back, it definately is do-able.

Backing up to cd's isn't so easy, I have over 30 videos, all the raw footage from them and over 3000 pics from last yr alone.  I went to copy my Vids folder and it would have needed 17 cd's for that 1 folder.  External hard drive will be my next purchase after Fork.

Yeah that is a bummer.

I agree with all backing up is very important, but the good news your stuff can be recovered.

4biz, you have the right idea. An external drive, a big one, and regular back-up schedule. I'm sorry to say that I've been there and done that. And I know better, and have for a long time. Some data may still be recoverable. Take it to a good IT guy, and let him give it a shot. It will cost you a few bucks, but it sounds like you have some stuff on there that would be worth something to you.

Cheers,

GK

Get yourself a second hard drive, external or the even cheaper internal type.  I usually wipe Windows clean once or twice a year and reload it.  Even if my main C drive crashes, I've got all my valuable stuff on a 160gb backup hard drive.
