I recently bought a ruger 10/22 and I'm looking for a scope for it.  Any recomendations?

That  is about as much as I am looking to spend but I would go more if the difference justified the cost.  I will be using this for both hunting and target shooting/plinking.

If you are going to be target shooting get a 3-9X Leupold.  You cant go wrong with those scopes.  Better warranty than a Loomis even.

I would also reccomend a 3-9 but i dont know if i would put a leupold on it . The scope would be more than the gun. I also wouldnt recomend a Tasco they are very cheap usually plastic. Right now on my .17 i have a bushnell 3-9. which i really like. i would go to Gander Mountain or whatever Sporting Goods store and talk with them.

While the two listed in the link would work, I would suggest just going with a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40.  The two in the link only have a 28 mm objective diameter.  

If you do go with a 40 mm objective, you will most likely have to use higher rings (or a taller base).  Most rimfire rings are not capable of mounting a 40 mm objective.

I've got a 4x32 on one of my 10/22's and it does the job, but I often find myself pining for a good variable power scope on it like I have on my other rimfires.

Use the same scope on a .22 that you would use on any other rifle as long as it fits. Why would you want to sacrifice clarity and magnification just because of the .22's relatively low power? The better you see your target, the better you can hit it. Lots of people spend more for a scope than they do for the firearm. For squirrel hunting, I use a 6X, 30mm tube, 40mm objective scope on my Ruger Target pistol. I didn't put a varible scope on it because of the extra weight and not needing the lower powers.

Agreed I think only one of my 4 rifles (rimfire or centerfire) have the gun worth more than the scope.  Spend some good money on optics and you will not regret it.

I bought a Leupold VX-1 3-9 x 40 today.Got it mounted up with some peep through  rings and I cant wait to sight it in.
