How to Enhance FireFox's speed [TUT]

Featured Replies

Well for those of you FF users that don't like slow internet speeds try out this TUT that should increase the speed of your FF internet browser. Speaking technical, It does not increase the speed of your browser just lowers thinking time.

First off, open a new tab, or new window, and type in the address bar "about:config". Now, a list of wierd stuff should pop up. Yes, it's all confusing, but we're just going to edit a few things.

In the search box, type in network.http.pipelining -- with this done, one thing should come up. It should be set to false -- enable it by setting it to true.

Back to the search box, type in network.http.proxy.pipelining -- again, set it to true from false.

Again, we visit with our friend, the search box. Type in network.http.pipelining.maxrequests -- the value should say 4. Edit this value anywhere from 25 - 35, depending on how fast your connection is (I suggest 25 but my computer speed is faster then most ).

Now, with all this done, clear your search box so it shows the entire config list. Right click anywhere on the list, and press New -> Integer. Type in nglayout.initialpaint.delay -- set it's value to 0.

Now, restart Firefox (close all existing windows). Open it up, and you'll see a very obvoise increase in loading speed heck it makes Bass Resource a hella faster. Hooray for nerds and Firefox :D!!!

It is worth the 3mins it takes. You will really see the difference in loading speeds, less time spent waiting for things to load.

[Edit] I forgot to tell you guys that this should be used for Broadband users only that use FF.

Just made the modifications.

It sped up every web page load time but one.......

take a guess.

;D

I did it, too and the difference is noticible.  If I had read this anywhere else, I would have checked it out thoroughly before I did it.  The credibility offered by BassResource.com, however, allowed me to do it without question.  Thanks a lot!

Thanks Other! Everything seems to be faster, although the forums are still slow. Oh well, the forums speed is worth it becasue of the great info...

No problem guys. I'm trying to find out what else can be done. Pretty simple, its practically "Do this and That" statements just need the patients to read everything.

Yeah, but whats' the downside.

I mean firefox didn't design it's browser to be slow, so there must be a reason why the original settings are what they are.

By changing the settings the good news apparantly is that the browser will speed up.

My question is, what's the bad news?

if you could be so gracious...  any idea how to get my touch pad to work better with FF?  It seems rediculous, but at least half the scrolling features on a touch pad will not work with FF.   One would THINK these guys would have figured that out for the bazillions of notebook users who have touch pads...

but THANK you for your post!!!!
