Red Head Waders

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever used these waders? I am guessing that you need to buy boots to go over the neoprine stocking feet. Do the neprine stocking feet leak? The boots that they sell that look like they are put on over these waders have water release valves built into the boots. Can anyone confirm my beliefs? I got these as a Christmas present and do not have a receipt to return them for ones with built in boots.

I've never fished with a pair, although I've worn our head pastor's a time or two in the baptistry at church.  He fly fishes in them and swears by them.  The neoprene is alot warmer than rubber.  Unless you are wading in some seriously rough terrain, I don't know why you couldn't just wear an old pair of tennis shoes (running shoes would be good to let water out of the sides).  Again, I'm not an experienced wade-fisherman, but that's my .02.

I think BPS will exchange the waders if that's what you want to do.

Otherwise, boots are REQUIRED.

Another thing to with the boots to consider is the bottom of them.  Are you fly fishing in a stream?  If so, make sure you get the felt bottomed ones because when felt gets wet, it will grip the algae covered rocks where rubber bottomed boots will make you feel like your on an ice rink.

I would be using these for smallie fishing in the Rappahanock River.

Will BPS let me exchange these with a pair with built in boot (better and more expensive) if I don't have a receipt?  Obviously I would need to pay the difference.

ron,

I would think that, if the waders are unused and still in the original packaging, BPS should allow you to exchange them for another pair.  Most retailers will allow an exhange without a receipt.  A refund, on the other hand is a different story.  Why don't you just call them up and ask before making the trip?

I am going to call them when I get home from work.  I hope they let me do the exchange.  I just would rather have the pair with the built in boots for smallie fishing.  Thanks for your help guys.

I don't know what kind of rocks are in the Rap, but I wouldn't wade anywhere with anything other than a felt-bottomed boot.

I've got those exact waders and they are quite good for the money.  And unless you've got a pair of tennis shoes that are 2-3 sizes too big, you won't be able to get them on over the waders.

A decent pair of BPS branded wading shoes with velcro and felt bottoms are around $30.

Does the water come through the neoprine stockings?  If it doesn't maybe I will just buy the BPS wading shoes.

What would be the purpose of having waders if your feet got wet? :-?

I have red head waders and have boots and have teenis shoes. I bought the tennis shoes for 8 dollars at wal-mart 2 sizes t big and have used them for 4 seasons. I only use waders in the winter for trout and have zero problems with them, but I'm sure I look rediculous.
