For the last two days I have been unable to log on between the hours of 8 AM PST and 11:00 PM PST. I keep getting the "timed out" message. I am assuming that this happens at this time because of peak traffic. I blew it off yesterday as just a product of the upgrade, but I can see that there has been a ton of posting in the hours that I have been unable to log on.  If it is a problem on my end, I would love some suggestions on what to do, because after I log out tonight, I think that I will not be able to get back on till the wee hours tomorrow night, LOL

That's weird.  I don't have any clue that would cause that, as those hours don't coincide with anything on the site or server.  Can you reach other sites during those times?  If so, are they slow?  What browser/OS are you using?

I Use IE 7 and sometimes I get the can't connect with site message. I wait 5 minutes and usually get back on. This only happens from work, as i stay logged in at home.

X2..happened to me yesterday but after about 10 minutes everything was fine

I appreciate the responses, but I really need much more information if possible.  Please include the following:

Browser & version (example:  IE5)

If you were trying to access from home or work.

What anti-virus program you have, and version (example: Norton 360 2007)

What time you tried to access, including time zone.

When you were able to access (assuming it's from the same location, browser, etc.)

Whether you're on cable, DSL, dial-up, or work.

what error message you saw (exact words would be helpful)

How often this happens to you and if so, is it always at the same time of day?

AT work:3pm to midnight est, it happens more between 7 and 11pm,IE 7, Fiberoptic cable, but because they are govt puters we have some filters I don't even know, last one they added on CISCO, Glenn it is really not a big issue, it goes away usually by the second try.

Checfk the time on your clocks on the copmputers that you are having that problem with.

Their are Popup that have time syncs in beded in them and if you just close them without clicking on them they (some of them at least) have the abality to change your system clock.   I guess that is their way of getting back at you for not checking out what ever they were selling thrught the popup add!   That is why you get the time out message when you attempt log in.

I get the "Server is taking too long to respond" and the "connection timed out" error  sometimes.

But all I have to do is hit "refresh" and it's back to normal.

Thats  how it usually is for me too, but lately i could sit there and press refresh 100 times and the site will come up once. Then if i clicked on a thread, i would get the same message and have to click refresh another 100 times.

Every other site i have been to the last couple of days is working just fine and when this one is working, it seems faster than ever.

Try deleting your cookies and flushing your DNS resolver cashe

ipconfig /flushdns at a command prompt

That's a brilliant suggestion! I didn't think about that, but moving to a new server did, in fact, change the IP and therefore, the DNS.

To get to the command prompt, click "run" in your WindowsXP start menu, then type in  the word "command" and hit enter.

i had some problems last night. the page would come up as page cant be displayed and i'd have to close out of the window like 5 times to get it to work.

I doubt if a DNS issue would be intermittent.

You're wrong Burley.  It can take up to 72 hrs for DNS to propagate through the internet. In the interim, you may hit switches that have the new DNS, and hit others that don't - particularly proxy servers.  So it's likely it would be hit-or-miss, depending on how your query was routed.

Sorry, you're getting a glimpse into my world now.  Sometimes I forget who's reading this.  I fish year round, and compete in 7-10 tournaments a year, but I've been doing "Web stuff" for 12 years.  Basically, I'm a techno geek bass fisherman.  8-)

Bottom line: the problems should disappear after Sunday.  If not, then try the cache trick mentioned above.  If the problems still persist after that, then let me know.

It did it again for about three hours this morning. Just BR, and not just the forums. I tried on firefox and IE6 both of which I cleared all the cookies. I also "flushed the DNS"  I have no idea what that means, but I did it.
