BCS Champs vs. Division II Champs

Appalatchian State University in Boone, North Carolina has agreed to open their season in Tiger Stadium against Louisiana State University on August 30, 2008.

Appy State is the defending Division II champion while LSU is the defending BCS champion.

This is the first time two defending National Championship teams will face each other in the history of college football.

When LSU played Florida last year it was the current #1 ranked team playing last season's #1 ranked team, with LSU prevailing 28-24 in Baton Rouge.

The talking heads will now fill their air space about Appy State's upset of Michigan in the Big House last year and how they can do the same in Tiger Stadium.

The answer to their concerns is a big, fat NO!  LSU should win the game on their way to another brilliant season.

LSU leads the series with Appy State 1-0 by virture of a 24-0 win the last time the two teams met.

Michigan said samething about appy state and look what happen to them.

Dont take them lightly. If Appy State QB and their defense is back then this is going to be one heck of a football game.

P.S. I'm not saying Appy state going to win, but they didnt win 3 national titles in a row with luck.

ASU isn't Division II, they are Football Championship Subdivision.  What was formerly known as Division I-AA.

They are also the three-time defending FCS champions.

I can't wait to see this.

i cant wait to see what perilloux can do for us this year. :)

Yeah, LSU vs. D2 would be absolutely ridiculous. Div. 1 AA is not so far of a stretch. App State can play on a very, very high level, but come on, we're talking about LSU...

Applachian State is not Divsion II, they are Division I Championship Series, formally known in football as Division IAA; however they have a great fotball progrma for the size of their school. They should not be taken litely.

X2, This should just about sum it up...

BIG BLUE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The difference is no, but Michigan fans, thought Michigan was that great last year.  While everyone pretty much said all year LSU was the best team in the country.

Then again it's all about match ups, Michigan got killed by every spread offense they faced.  They just weren't fast enough or use to that type of system.  While LSU is faster, and has played Florida that uses a spread offense, so they wont be as surprised as Michigan was last year.

Then playing at LSU, that is one of the toughest places to play at.  I think it will be like the Ohio State game, App. State would be use to the talent and speed that LSU will have.

Finally, no SEC team will lose to a Div II, there is a reason the SEC also the top conf. and has been for the last decade or so.

Yea, too bad they are not playing a Division II team. As was stated before Applachian State is Division I Subdivision, or Div. I AA. Also do not take them lightly, anything is possible. They have confidence now after winning at one of football holy grails, and that is half of the battle. Also, at least they won their National Championships in a playoff rather tha being voted into the title game.

I'm guessing you missed the Capital One Bowl? Remember, the one where Michigan was fast enough and prepared enough to beat Florida's spread?

That game was more about UF's defense not being worth a chewed up Senko than UM's defense stopping UF's offense.

maybe, but Michigan certainly didn't get "killed by the spread" as he said. ANd they looked just as fast as UF in that game.

Had the Big Blue played like they played against Florida when they P=played OSU the game may have turned out different.

Will be interesting to see if RR can beat the Buckeyes.
