Rod for topwater

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, new here and am glad I found this site.

My question is, what rod do you recommend for throwing light rico's and splash its? Every rod I have seems to stiff for much distance as they only weight 1/4 oz. The 2 I'm considering are the Falcon Lowriders in the LFC-2-169 and the LFC-3-166, what do think?

Welcome aboard!

I don't generally throw lures that light, but when I do I use a Fenwick Techna AV AVS70MM spinning rod. This is 7' Medium Power/ Moderate Action. The rod loads up and cast light lures a mile! The same blank is offered in a baitcaster, AVC70MM.

I fish my smaller top waters on the Falcon LFC-4-16 "treble hooker" 6' medium power fast action casting rod. It's rated 3/16 - 3/8 oz. It easily handles the 1/4 oz top waters you are wanting to use and is a pretty fair jerk bait rod to boot ;)
