Always be thinking about what might be sitting around that bend in the road, and like Matt said don't stare at the road right in front of your vehicle. I can't believe the number of kids I see doing that around town.

For those who don't get the opportunity to drive very much for whatever reason, Drivers Ed is probably the best tool available.  If implemented correctly it can cause the most inexperienced permit drivers to develop the skills necessary to become a competent, complete driver.  I got to drive a whole lot before taking drivers education (had an awesome dad) and it helped me to correct some of the bad habits I picked up after getting comfortable doing certain things over a period of time that would have given me problems on my actual drivers test.

I think its totally necessary but it sure can be intimidating.  Especially if you have a drivers education instructor who actually does his/her job correctly.    

Bad News - Insurance statistics say that you will have an automobile accident within the first three (3) years of driving.

Good News - Seatbelts on at all times and on all passengers or the car does not move.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER drink and drive. My 20-year old nephew did and he is going to lose his license for 90-days and have to go to state counseling to find out if he is a drunk.  Plus other counseling sessions. Total estimated cost - $1,500.  Cost of telephone pole - $1,250. Cost of totalling his Jeep - $8,000 (no physical damage insurance). Embarassment - Priceless.

Always look out of the window, the side view mirror and the rear view mirror before changing lanes.  Changing lanes can be dangerous if you do not double check before changing lanes.

Do not try to run a red light.  It is red for a reason.  Stop. And no "Texas Rolling Stops" until you are older.

Wash and wax the car and clean the inside.  Hey, the car belongs to your parents but you can help take care of it.

And the MOST IMPORTANT thing - get good grades so you can get the drivers premium discount on your auto insurance in the future.

Now you can get your own boat and tow it.

just got back from day 2 of 4 with driving with the instructor and i must say it went MUCH better than wednesday.

i was a nervous wreck on wednesday cuz it was my first time on the roads, but i was much less nervous and much more aware today.

im driving to the farm pond tomorrow morning for some good fishin
