Need advice on new gaming system; Xbox 360 or Wii

Recommended Posts

My family has been playing PS2 and PSP for several years. We are wanting to get a new gaming system, but can't decide which one, the Xbox 360 or Wii. The Wii's interactive capability is really cool, but I think we might get tired of it. The Xbox seems to have a better selection of games and availability. I have played the Rapala fishing and MLB on the Wii, and loved it. Their system prices(if you can find a Wii) and game prices seem to be comparable. If anyone has any experience with them, or has a preference for one, please give your advice and reasons.

Thanks

i would definetly go with the 360. We have both the Wii and the Xbox and i love them both. Like you said the xbox has a much better selection as far as game and it also has better graphics, and the ability to play live online. its fun to play the wii and be able to interact with it but and it come with wii sports. the downside is that alot of times i dont feel like moving a whole lot while playing a game and plus i usually dont like games as soon as i get them because the controls are always so difficult to get used to and never the same as the last game you played as opposed to the xbox (and ps2) that have controls that are for the most part the same for many games. one thing to watch out for in the xbox tho is in the older models(not sure about the newer) there is a tendancy for the parts inside the machine to fail and ruin it. sorry for writing a book ;)

Xbox360 - more games available. That's probably the biggest differences.

Cory N got it right on the money, video games are way better on a PC, IMO!!

both systems have thier good points...

I have both... I prefer the Wii for sports games.. but for shooter and driving games.. 360 is the way to go...

bass fishing on the Wii is as close as I get.. and its actually pretty fun!

PS3...

Why take a chance on an Xbox that will just break, and then have to be sent back to be repaired?

For a family system I would recommend the Wii. Mariokart, smashbrothers, mario galaxy etc... fun multiplayer games. You don't always have to use the Wii controllers. Gamecube controllers work and are my favorite controller out of all of them.

Didn't they solve most of the Red ring problems? Considering how many XBOXs have been sold (way more than Wii and PS3) the proportion of broken consoles doesn't seem too high. I really don't think this is as large of a problem as many think it is, especially anymore. Also, don't discount Microsoft as a company, there is a reason why their console has outsold all the others, and that is because it is a good product.

I would come down to this, if you like kid type games, get a Wii, if you play games for older people (Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo3, etc..) go for a 360.

Although I agree that PC is the best gaming method, if you are trying to game with people (family, friends) in the same room, a PC just won't work. PC is generally better for when you just want to play with yourself or if you have dedicated gaming friends who you can find servers with.

You would be absolutely shocked at how many Xboxes go through U.P.S to and from Texas to get repaired. I must have seen about 100 in one trailer the other night. We have a 53' trailer that is outbound for Dallas, and the kid that loads it was saying they just keep coming everynight. :o

From what I have personally seen/delivered, it is a huge problem for Microsoft. I have a buddy who's on his 3rd one. ::)

Why hate on the ps3 best system out. :-X

I am not hating on any system, I just thought that chart was funny.  Blue ray for the win            right?

I play first person shooters, mostly H3 and COD4 online, Bioshock is awesome too.  I just have to remember to keep up my sacrifices to the microsoft gods...

edit: why can I not abbreviate For The Win as the first letter of each word?

My 360 just red ringed a couple weeks ago  :-[

I prefer 360 but I like FPS games and I thrive on multiplayer. Wii is neat but not worth the trouble of searching for it. Just depends on what you like.

My brother got so lucky to find his!  He literally showed up at a Target as they were taking 5 of them off the truck.  The people at Target had no idea they were getting them either.  My bro got one and someone else bought the other 4.  Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, right?

I may be an old fart, but after one hour with a Wii, I was ready to ventilate the thing with 124 gr. hollowpoints.

I have owned both.

If your buying something for the family: Wii

If your buying it for the online experience: 360

I sold my 360 because I didn't have high speed access and I felt that is where most of the 360 games were being geared towards.

Picked up the Wii and have played it for over a year now. Great party system and also great to play with the kids. Plus you get all those great Nintendo games from the past.

If your on a budget than the Wii is also the way to go.

Now even if you don't feel like moving around, the newer wii games have control options where you don't have to do any movements and you can even use the older gamecube controllers.

After all that....I prefer the Wii to be honest when I am gaming. But I'm far from a hardcore gamer.
