Polarized Sunglasses...what frame/lens color/brand???

Featured Replies

I wear Bolle Vigilantes with an amber lense and I love them.  I like the way they fit and replacement parts are easy to get if you need to make repairs.

here in GA by law people 18 and under cant wear anyhting but polycarbonate... So theres a reason for that... ill always wear poly lenses... i dont dig the shattering in the eye ball thing... but thats just me...

I have a couple pair of polarized sunglasses, Strike King Polarized from Wal-Mart and Oakley Flak Jacket w/ Black Iridium Polarized Lenses.

The difference between the cheap glasses from Wal-Mart and the Oakley glasses is night and day.  There is honestly no comparison, but then again I am comparing a $15 pair to a MUCH more expensive pair.

I bought the Oakley's after my fishing partner was seeing fish that I couldn't see due to the limited polarization on the cheaper glasses.  I have noticed a big difference in the two sunglasses when driving in rain and bluebird skies.  The Strike Kings from Wal-Mart are good sunglasses for bluebird skies when driving, but the Oakley's are SO much better in rain and also on the water.

As always, YMMV, but I did a side-by-side comparison of every pair in the case before purchasing the expensive pair.  I am sure I drove the salesman crazy doing it!  When spending that kind of money on sunglasses, I want to make darn sure I am happy with the purchase.

The "shattering in the eyeball" thing essentially isn't possible with modern, well-constructed glass lenses. When something impacts the lens and it shatters, the lenses are encased in safety films that keep them from showering your eye with glass. They're ANSI tested and certified to resist shattering under some pretty extreme impacts. And while plastic is flexible, it can (and sometimes does) break under the same conditions that break glass.

A good pair of lenses is designed to break without causing injury to the eye, glass lenses or otherwise.

No one has tried the Lure Eyes Cuda? Read some good things about them/good review on tackletour. Seem hard to find/don't make them anymore or something though. My oakleys are goners, looking for something new.

Just to clear up a small detail about Costa Del Mar.

The 580 is a lens treatment.  It is not a lens material.
