well guys this mornings trip got rained out but i did prctice alot though... i was throwing a lead bullet weight and it aparently cut my line and got a mother of all mothers of backlashes.... actually had to cut it out.... lol but that was the only one.... but got better even more with it today... now just have to learn my accuracy.... lol Alex

well today i practticed with my 5/16 oz bullett weight and i started off with everything tight.... threw it about 20 feet... then after about an hour of that i loosened the sppol up and went to about 40 feet... than i got brave and loosened it up a little more and shiz am! 35 yard casts into the woods behind my house off the deck... only got 2 major back lashes when i first started after that they were a few streches of line off the spool and they were gone..... ill continue to practice, but im going to the lake with it in a few hours.... anyone know where i can find a 5/8oz practice plug? biggest ive found was 3/8oz... Also im a dummy when it comes to weighs in fractions could anyone point me in the right direction to finding a 0 to 1 oz chart with all the fractions inbetween listed in order? lol i know im not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes tot his stuff.... ok guys i finally got my combo together... a Quantum energy PT baitcaster($70) and a Quantum energy PT rod Medium Heavy fast action rated for 1/4 oz to 1 1/2oz lures and 10 to 25lb line($89)... i put 12lb sufix siege camo colored line on and spooled it though a rag with about 6 sparys of KVD line and lure conditioner.... ok so its time to learn and i adjusted the spool control and breaks as told though reel mechanics baitcaster setup 101.... Ok so im going to start practicing tomarrow and based on what ive told you is just a 5/16oz lead weight enough to practice with? should i go heavier/lighter? im looking for all advice!!! sorry for the long post and thanks for all the help in advance!!! why not get one of those tour editions from cabelas for 130 bucks? Just got my rod today and i must say i already like it... ALOt!! very comfortable int he hands... Alex

I agree with you to a point, but it's like this in anything. You oughta see what some guys think they have to spend on a shotgun to qualify themselves as a bona-fide grouse and woodcock uplander. You ever seen a $50,000 shotgun? ;D Seriously, some guys figure you have not arrived until you spend at least $5000 on a SxS shotgun. Weird. Trust me.....even in the upper levels, fishing equipment can seem cheap compared to other pursuits. Have you ever seen a 100% custom made Kregoff k-80? hand carved wood hand carved metal. everythign hand made.... Costs well over $150K a doctor here shoots it at my local club.... man i wish i had it beautiful gun.... ive actually shot that one one time then gave it back to him afraid i was gonna drop it... but to answer the OP question.... i think to a certain amount they are better... like was is the difference between $400 and $200 reels? not much Alex

ive used the Cajun line you buy at wal mart and i havent had one problem out of it... has SUPER low memory and also doenst break the bank... great line if you ask me.... landed alot of fish for me this year... and red "disappears" at 3 feet of water to fish like it says on the box... but doesnt go "invisible" to humans until 9 feet... so this brings up my question.... Do fish and humans see things differently? Alex

i think of it like guns... wal mart might have the same gun as a local store, BUT in all reality the fit finish action and what not are 100% different... ofcourse the one at walmart is most definately sub par... Alex

also if i like the rod i plan on buying a spinning one and putting an energy PTi-??? spinning reel on it... i love the finish on the energies... my biggest shock is how well diawa's triforce rods are... lol i know cheap-o's but id say it matches the performance of my BPS bionic blade.... i still may buy the pt rod for my KVD signature series spinning reel that i love so much... lol Alex

yeah i almost baught a 6'10 Heavy action rod(well i did got to the truck and decided i wanted a MH)... but wanted MH instead so he had to order me one and could only get 7'... i loved the feel of the rod... and always liked the looks of the split handle... and it fit very comfortably in my hand... cant wait to see what it feels liek when i put my energy PT reel on it!!! i guess you goys can tell im Quantum through and through right? lol also the guy at the local tackle shop said those rods are way better than the all star rods and have alot better warrenty... and i know what you mean on the gear situation i started from ground zero, i had nothing.... lol Alex
