I came home today from work took my dog, a miniature pinscher named Brewski out to do his thing and he stepped on a bee. I have never heard a dog cry so loud in my life. Well his paw started swelling so I knew this was going to hurt me now as well. I called the vet, they wanted to see him right away since he is a small dog. When all was said and done, he got two shots, one for swelling and one for pain. Then I really felt the pain, they handed me a bill for $100, man that hurt so much I almost cried. But then I remembered he was one of my fishing buddies so the pain didn't last to long.

My dog got slapped on the mouth by a copperhead! Not a pretty bill!! Vet bills are insane!

I take my dog to Banfield in Petsmart. I pay $25 a month and everything is free except medication outside of her usual vacinations. That includes all visits, two comprehensive exams a year and spay/neuter. The only downside is they try to sell you extra stuff. Name brand flea and tick meds, high end dog food. You just gotta say no.

Anyone want me to post a picture of my $1000 dog?  He's a 75lb mutt that my daughter picked up off the street and brought home.  Several years after we fell in love with him he got hit by a car.  $1000 later we have a 75lb crippled mutt.

I'd gladly pay $100 over a dog....my dog has hip dysplexia(sp) a hereditary disease we didn't know about when we brought the dog for $200 @ a pet store. The pet store moved out real fast when people found out about them and their pets.

If i were to get my dog fixed it would cost me an upward of $5,000-$10,000 ballpark(just what i was told).Needless to say i ain't got that kind of money.All i can do is just give the dog a good life and love his spoiled butt till the hip thing gets bad.I know i'm gonna have to put him down within the next 1-3 year time span.He's on all kind of joint and hip pills i have to sneak into his food otherwise he won't eat them.

Needless to say this experience has my family not wanting another dog for awhile when this one goes....To this day i'm still searching for that pet store and make sure they never,never do this again to anybody else.He came from a litter of 5...so 4 more people probably have the same problem.I won't buy from puppy mills or pet stores ever again....i always,always brought my past dogs from home owners i knew and the adult dogs i knew as well.

I wouldn 't put him down, what your dog needs is not pain killers, antiinflamatory drugs nor neutraceutics, what your dog needs is surgery and it 's not even a complicated and/or expensive one, all the vet has to do is tu cut away the femur head, if it 's bilateral then one femur head is removed and six to eight weeks later the other one is removed and in 12-16 weeks you have a brand new dog without pain.

Don't get me wrong I would pay what ever the cost is to take care of my dog because he is like a member of the family.  I love him and would be crushed if I ever lost him.  I just was disappointed that it cost me $100 for the two shots.

Sometimes we just love our dogs, I lost two of my cockers a year and half ago to the tainted dog food. It was the last posted as being tainted. 5K later both were put down. We since adopted a female coker 7 years old. She is the sweetest thing,. You just can not replace this type of love.

The Vet i went to said it wouldn't be worth it.

If it matters my dog is getting close to 5 years now...he started showing signs at 2 years old.So we've been treating him the pills and stuff the vet recommended at the time.  

I don't think vet bills are too expensive...  think about it, you are paying cash for medical services.  If you paid monthly health insurance premiums on your pet, the office visit vet bills would be low but you would be paying every month.

By the way, insurance is available for your pets.  But I'll keep the monthly premiums in my pocket and pay the office visits occasionally.  

Just like a Doctor... find a vet you like and trust.
