Just wondering - anybody use a steady - methodical retrieve on anything other than a buzzbait? If so, please tell me what lure type and your success as i don't fish that way and am curious. Whatever i throw gets little tugs,snaps,pauses,twitches,or something. A curly-tail grub is about as close as i get to a steady retrieve, but i still work it a little. Am i missing something?

I almost always twitch/jerk/speed up/slow down/stop/go- retrieve usually bouncing off of stuff.  This is what I have found to be most productive.  I almost always out fish people who chuck it and reel in like a robot.

You can retrieve by....

using same speed

stop and go

stop, let her sink and then go

stop, let her sink and rip her to the surface

yo-yo up and down

go slow - go fast- go slow

In other words, do whatever you want to do and the fish will tell you what they like.

And yes, I retrieve using one speed for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits and buzzbaits.

But I also do all of the above, too.

There are no rules regarding your retrieve.  Do whatever you want.

A steady retrieve can be used for many lures presentations.  It may not always be the best presentation, but at times it can be.  I don't typically start with this presentation, but have used it.

I've used steady retrieves on crankbaits, spinnerbaits, worms, jigs, jitterbugs, etc.  It could also be used on swimbaits (never fished one though).
