Fishing Tackle Storage Project:  Fishing Shelves

Featured Replies

With my wife griping about my 'excessive tackle boxes' (3700's)...I decided on a system to organize them.  I feel like I'm already pretty organinzed; I have a box(s) for several techniques, but not a place to file them.  I choose 3700's for my tackle storage, and 3741's (4" deep 3700's) for my unopened plastic storage.  With boxes coming out of every crevice in our guest room, I suggested a shelving system that would look nice and not be an eye sore for guests.  Making sound like it would benefit us both; my wife was instantly on board.  Off to Walmart I went to buy some bookshelves.  I purchased (2) 5-tier bookshelves which seemed almost tailor made for 3700 size boxes.  The bookshelves only cost $29 each, and made my tackle look very neat...and more importantly 'displayable'.  Making your tackle collection easy on the eyes and quite displayable will help your cause.  Here is the finished product...

Nahhh...she won't kill you.  I must say the biggest thing is that my tackle doesn't have to be hidden.  This is one of our guest rooms, and getting the nod to have my boxes out in the open meant I had it looking pretty d**n neat!  Now our guests get to sleep next to my tackle  ;)

Man, this is how I am gonna be when I get a job and a steady amount of money coming in, so that book shelf idea doesn't look half bad. You can never have enough tackle.

Does look much, much neater and cooler than sitting up on the shelf in the closet.

To be honest; I've collected a lot over the years, but use very little.  I've thought seriously about thinning my selection by half but keep knocking the idea because of the 'what if's'.  It isn't hurting me to keep it at this point but I will never tell anyone I need it.

"What if's" are why my tackle bag weighs 75 lbs.

Very nice display!

I keep all my tackle in the boat so my wife doesn't see it.  If we take the kids out fishing, I just don't fish so she doesn't see it all, besides when the kids are on the boat, they are the primary focus.  I would rather plant the seeds of angling than catch a hog when they are with me.  That is until they want to go after bass and fish a tournament with me.  At that point, all bets are off!

Great idea!  You got it bad my friend.  If there was such a thing as going over to the deep end, you're on the bottom.  Nice collection. :)

You do have a lot of boxes, but if your wife is ok with it great!

You said you have lures for different technics on them, can you elaborate please?

All hail, the Bait-Monkey God!

Wow...now I have something to aspire to with my growing tackle collection.  Quiet!  I can hear my wife coming...... :-X

I have a friend who works at an outdoor sport store.  At his house he has a 10 gun gun case.  In this case he has nine guns.  As long as there is one empty slot in his gun case, his wife won't say a word about the amount of guns he has.  He told me that his last count of shotgun, rifle, and handguns was 54.  He even keeps some of them under he side of the bed!  Out of sight out of mind...

I have the same problem. I carry this huge bag, and hardly ever use something different then I have rigged on my 8 rods already. Of course there are those few times that I have had to really dig and try some interesting stuff. "what if's" are what make fishing fun

Natural, you are my "Storage" poster child!!! Just wondering, the top spinner bait boxes seem to have yellow marking tags. Do you mark the 3700 series or do you just look to see whats in them? Any way good Job! Crowcommander

Those yellow 'tags' you see are just the tabs that lock the lid down.  I've got 3 waterproof spinnerbait boxes and 3 standard.  It's funny you ask, because I plan to label each and every box (they used to be), but my printer is broken.  I actually have Fellows label making software that comes in real handy.  On another note, you can see I have some skinnier 3700's on the right shelf with the yellow tabs.  I've only had these for a month, and they are what I use for my 'On deck' baits.  They are only 2/3 the width of a regular 3700, and you can fit quite a few more of them in a bag.  For instance, my red Cabelas bags could only fit 7 boxes of standard 3700's, but they can fit 11 boxes of those.  The boxes do allow enough storage for a days worth of baits...actually it is just perfect.  If you feel you need more than 7-10 of a particular bait...you just alot it another compartment.
