Sooo, are we in for a rough one ? I think we are here in the Mid Atlantic region. We're due for one.

Our last monster was 1996 when we got 36" of snow (stop laughing you midwesterners, thats a lot to us ) in a single storm. Have had relatively mild winters since.

My prediction is based on my Black Walnut trees. They've dropped a ton of nuts this fall, and the squirrels have been tearing them up more than usual.

What do you observe (besides the Weather Channel) to try and predict what the winter will be like ?

Mild again in Rhode Island. No acorns two years in a row.

2005 was beyond ridiculous, I was shoveling acorns into the bed of my truck with a snow shovel. I have eight oak trees in my yard. It was bad... very very bad.

We had several oaks in our yard back in Virginia, we would try and enjoy the nice weather but acorns kept hitting us in the heads.

My mom got tired of it and started wearing a hard hat in the yard.

I hope it rains everyday from now till february. Then it shuts off and the water clears in time for prespawn fishing in FULL, CLEAR, reservoirs!

If we have another winter like the last two, bass fishing in california will screech to a halt.

Go to the St. Croix store in Park falls if your ever in that area. You can find rods with slight blemishes for alot cheaper. I got a legend elite 07 model for 140. I couldn't find anything wrong with it either could the guy behind the counter except for a little blemish in the wrap. He said alot of the discount rods just have cosmetic problems. You might even find a good deal on one of the newer models.
