I had to write a paper about a poem. She graded my paper and commented that I need to use "literary present tense" rather than past tense.

I'm writing about something that already happen!!! you!

I needed to get that off my chest.

I get the fun of taking my first Engish class this summer and the only one offered at the time slot I need is with a complete ***** of an instuctor!  I can't wait!   :D

It's pretty standard to write in present tense in reference to literature...and lots of other subjects as well. It's really awkward at first but you'll get used to it once you do it for a while.

I am in my 3rd and last English class of college and the rest of my life!!!! WOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

:)

Been there, done that.  As an alternative one semester, I took a creative writing class for English credit.  All through my public school career, I had teachers tell me that I wrote quite well.  This guy criticized everything I turned in.  Needless to say, he and I bargained for a "C" and I was glad to see his class in my rear view.

Had she discussed the use of the literary present tense and expressed her desire that you use it?

I had a teacher that swear to write better to visit the tutoring center. I did but did not like the fact the tutor told me to write what she wrote my paper >:(. She only kept two words. Long story short. I read my teacher's comments and my writing improved so well that she thought I went to the tutoring center all the time.

There are books that can help your writing. Go to the tutoring center or talk to your teacher. I love to write creatively but have problems with essays. Trust me I hate writing essays.

Best of luck with your English class. Perfer Lit.  :)

I can't believe your teacher thought you needed help with your writing.  What is wrong with that woman?

Lauren, you are right up there with Ernest Hemingway, except you can't spell, punctuate or put together a coherent sentence.
