Kudos for Rapala Skitter Walk

Featured Replies

I've never done a lot of topwater fishing, but last week I decided to try out the Skitter Walk and see if I could "walk the dog."  Within a couple casts, I was doing it in a convincing manner.

This week, I started with the Skitter Walk early in the morning.  I never took it off because I was doing so well.  I found the Skitter Walk easy for walking the dog (7' rod), effective, and heavy enough to cast well.

I have a new confidence bait.

I agree Leon.  I went through the exact same scenario last Fall.  If I want to "walk the dog" the SkitterWalk is the bait I reach for.

i think the skitterwalk is the easiest topwater lure to walk-the-dog with...you don't even really have to twitch the rod tip with slack line to get that enticing side-to-side Z action...even a stop-and-go retrieve will do it.

that being said, i think it almost walks the dog TOO easily. when i try to impart a little more splashing, the skitterwalk doesn't like it. i think the skitterwalk is great, especially if you're just starting out...however, the surface commotion is somewhat subtle...if fish want more splash and noise, a spook or a sammy does better there.

TWH, I'm still better with my spinning outfit, but may be more accurate with my BC.  Lately I've been using spinning gear because my new spot has lots of reed, brush & low lying tree limbs that can affect my casting.  Cheers

At last year's Brazil trip, a gentleman from the south was using the skitter walk and nailed a 22 lb peacock bass with it.  That lure works everywhere. ;)

yeah i just got one of those and it was really easy to walk the dog with it . I have yet to catch a fish on it though :'(
