Marketing help for Gander Mountain

Featured Replies

I have seen three Gander Mountain stores - Ocala and Lake Mary, Florida and Bowling Green, Kentucky.  They are all visible from the interstate highway.  I have only been in the one in Ocala because I could not take the time to explore how to get to the other two.

When you approach an area that has a Bass Pro Shop there will be a billboard along the interstate advising you that you are getting near the store and letting you know which exit to take.  Not so with Gander.

At the Ocala store, even if you get off at the right exit, there is no sign telling you which street to turn on to get to the store.  It just happened that I had time one day to search for the store and finally figured it out.

I searched for the Lake Mary store on my Tom Tom, but Gander Mountain stores do not appear on it under points of interest.

I really enjoy the stores, but I wish the company would put up billboards (even though I normally hate billboards) to direct us interstate travelers to the stores.

There's supposed to be a Gander Mountain opening less than a mile from my house.

Supposed to be

Maybe

someday

It's been well over a year and the old K mart building that Gander is moving into looks pretty much the same.  It's almost like they've employed 2 carpenters to do the whole job and then blindfolded them.

Went into Gander in Palm Beach County, didn't see much of a reason to go back, especially with Lott Bros right across the street, that's a real tackle store.

They are right off I-95, just got off freeway and drove right in, no signs, no gps, no problem.

For you guys that don't like GM...what were your main issues with them? I have been to one in Tonawanda, NY and one in Statesville, NC. Both were pretty good. Nice selection of stuff, but as the original poster said, finding their stores was an interesting challenge.

Funny you should post this.  We just drove past the one (as we have several times) in Texarkana yesterday on the way to the in-laws in Little Rock.  I've always been tempted to stop in, but I've never been sure of how and where to exit to get to it.  It's kind of on a side of the interstate where nothing else is.  Since I'm traveling with my family, I'm not going to take too much time to leave the roadway and find it.

I wonder how many others have not gone in their store for the same reason.

I stopped in the one in Paducah, Ky on the way to Arkansas in the middle of duck season and they hardly had any ammo for sale. Only had 2 boxes of Federal(which I don't shoot) that was remotely cheap. Asked a worker why they didn't have anything, said he didn't know and just walked off. I don't mind buying from them online when they have free shipping since some of their decoys are cheaper, and shipping just kills you on some purchases.

The salesperson in the fishing section never heard of Yozuri fishing line.

They stopped carrying Luck Craft.

They don't have any High end Shimanos, or other reels for that matter.

They did away with the boating department and expanded the camping/diving section.

The food sucked in the restaurant on two different occasions.

They're expensive.  No reason to buy from them over Sports Authority, WalMart, BassPro or one of our sponsor here at BassResource.com.

None of the employees have a clue about the merchandise that they are there to sell. Gander Mountain is as far into the outdoors they have ever been. I'll never go back.
