Yum Money Minnow?

Featured Replies

I stopped into Dick's at lunch today, needed to pick up a couple cranks and jerkbaits. Anyway, while looking around I saw these in the isle with the rest of the swimbaits. They looked pretty good (at least color wise), I was just wondering if anyone has tried them yet. Are they worth picking up or should I just admire them from a distance. LOL!

I haven't gotten into the swimbait craze but I did play around with the MM. It has really good action and i imagine will catch fish but I haven't fished it enough to know. i used a gamakatsu weighted 4/0 weighted hook.

I jumped on this bandwagon with all four feet. I bought Money Minnows, Shadalicious, and Berkley's Hollow Belly's, and a bunch of the seriously over-priced weighted hooks to go with them. I bought several colors in every size. Probably spent 200 bucks. They're about to all get tossed into the "what the ^%$# was I thinking" pile.

I have yet to catch a fish on one. I've had one bite, and didn't hook that one.

I've been fishing them side by side with Swim Senkos, and I've caught a bunch of fish on the Swim Senkos.

I know which I'll be buying in the future. This has to be the only case where GYCB baits are cheaper than the competition.

Cheers,

GK

I haven't fished them enough yet to make a decision. I threw one for a little bit at my last tournie and I got one viscious strike. The bass was huge but he came unglued before I got it to the boat.

LOL.  Too True.  I just bought some Swimming Senkos because of this.

I jumped into the swimbait craze too, but havent bought any of these swimbaits. From what I have read don't even bother with these swimbaits, but instead opt to buy a couple of quality proven swimbaits that will last several fish (i.e. Mattlure baby bass). It will end up saving you money in the long run.

i've had good luck with these baits. I use them night fishing sometimes as well, when the water is real calm and fish want a more subtle retrieve

Here's my .02 on the Money Minnow.  I bought a pack and was not impressed. I rigged it with an X-Swim bait hook (1/8th and the recommended 1/4 oz).  If the bait is not rigged almost perfectly, it will swim tilted on its side.  The action was interesting but the bait itself is very fragile.  While I did not catch anything on it, I could see that just rigging the bait a couple of times that it didn't have much use left.  Maybe I am not used to using hollow body swimbaits but I did rig it carefully each time.  I actually think that for cheaper money, one can use the Wildeye Storm swimbaits that already have the hook buried in it.  I like the Storm swimbaits better than the Yum.  Again, just my .02.

i bought a pack of the 3.5" Bluegill colored Money Minnows last weekend.  Have not thrown them yet, but hope to next weekend when i'll be hitting the pond again.
