Pittsburgh vacation help!!! Anyone!

Featured Replies

I am planning on vacationing with the family in Pittsburg on Labor Day weekend.  We are hoping to visit the childrens museam and the Carnegie museums.

First off, how are these museums?  I've got a 4 y/o and 18 month old to entertain.

Also, any areas near hear that I want to avoid, ie. mugged, shot, etc. etc.?  Don't laugh, I'm a country bumpkin and rarely go to big cities.

Be sure to wear lots of Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles gear. The locals will embrace you....... ::)

I grew up there. Make sure to add the h at the end of Pittsburgh. Only Pittsburgh and Plattsburgh N.Y. have the h at the end as far as I know.

The Carnegie Museum is awsome!! My best friend and I used to go there frequently as teenagers. You could spend the whole weekend there alone.

The Hill District is a good place to avoid, and is fairly near Carnegie Museum.

Also, make sure to take the Inclines up Mt.Washington. Awsome view of the city and rivers :o. Good restaurants at the top and bottom.A very unique experience. Perhaps a river cruise might interest you too 8-). They are reasonably priced and another great way to see the city.

I haven't been back there for @ 25 years. :'( Enjoy.

The Pittsburgh Zoo and the National Aivary are great for kids.

Kennywood park make for a fun day as well make sure you hit the potato patch there for the fries. any thing else you want to know feel free to pm me.

Station Square is pretty decent for shopping and walking around. It's right below the Incline that bass or bass ? was talking about. Also, right near there is the Gateway Clipper Fleet where you can take the kids out on one of the little ships for a boat ride tour.

Oh and as with any city, there are parts where you don't want to let the sun set on your behind.  :o

Yeah, the Gateway Clipper fleet was what I was thinking of when I mentioned a river cruise, I just couldn't dredge it up from my muddled memory.      Phips Conservatory is another great attraction, right near Carnegie Museum.

Been there a couple times as my sister-in-law is from Pitt.  Pretty city as cities go.

All I can say other than that is, there never was a Mawby's bar as was featured in the movie "Flash Dance"
