Waterproof boots for winter, which ones?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a pair of waterproof boots I can use in the snow and in the cold weather while fishing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Lots of options. If you're going to be stationary, such as ice fishing, the warmest option is pac-type boots, the kind with rubber bottoms, leather uppers and a removable felt liner.

Another option for fairly deep snow is insulated 17-18" rubber boots, such as offered by Rocky, LaCrosse and others.

Yet another option could be a low, warm boot and a pair of gaiters for when the snow is too high for the boots.

Sorels X2.

I also own a pair of leather, insulated Herman Survivors that I also kept well waterproofed. They had a moisture wicking insole that vented through the tongue. This was an 8" boot, so good only for low snow, but not as clumsy as big boots when driving. My feet have never

been cold or wet with either of these boots.

However, my reply got me curious about the Hermans so i did some research and I found that Wal Mart now owns  the Herman company and the shoes are NOT what they once were.  The Hermans I was refering to were indeed made in the US, not China.  I have owned them over 20 years, my son wears them now. So I guess Hermans are no longer a viable choice.  Sad.

The Bean Boot, by the LL Bean company.  Lifetime guarantee and are awesome.  By lifetime I mean lifetime, I have an uncle that had a pair he wore for close to ten years, wore them out, sent them back and got a new pair.  Awesome product, customer service and an American company.

We had ski areas open last week, it sucks.

I recommended the Redwing's because they keep you warm and dont kill your back while on a boat.

For me, Justins are more comfortable, but Red Wings are built tougher.
