His former players said it was a slap in the face to the defense.

They had Bruschi and some others on WEEI today and they all understand the decision and how it was not a bad call. He just went with the offense because he had more confidence in their abilities and despite forcing Manning to go 3 and out several times and a few interceptions, he was beginning to get into his "groove".

Up here most of us are past it because come play-off time, the Pats will take out the Colts.

(But those Bengals are looking more and more like the team to beat. 4-0 against the Ravens and Steelers and two of their losses seem like real flukes... )

His former players said it was a slap in the face to the defense.

Peyton threw one duck, and it wouldn't be the first game he's ever had with multiple INT's.

So making him go 70 yards leaves room for error under that kind of pressure.

Younger receivers for Peyton, could fumble after the catch, penalty for holding. One thing for sure, with 70 yards to go, your not as apt to run the ball like they did right off the bat catching NE off guard.

And comparing Bellacheck stats when alot of the time he's been ahead by 30 and going for it is not the same when the game is on the line.

I don't see how his Defensive would see it as a slap in the face.  To me, he had enough confidence to believe that IF Brady failed, the Defense could hold the Colts from scoring a touchdown from 30 yards out.  Either way its silly to argue about how the call "lost" the game for the Patriots.  Don't let the game get to that point and you never have to worry about it.  With a 17 point 4th quarter lead, I'd say there were areas the Patriots Offense and Defense BOTH screwed up to let it reach that final pinnacle of a deceision any way.  The Colts plain outplayed them on both sides of the ball in the 4th.
