Did anyone watch this?

The footage and stories were great but they were so inaccurate it blew my mind.

The first thing that comes to mind was the episode on Guadalcanal showing troops with M2's and Hellcats which were not introduced until 1944 ... :-?  Someone needs to do some research.

Battle of Guadalcanal, was fought between August 7, 1942 and February 9, 1943

The Grumman F6F Hellcat, entered service in late 1942 and was deployed operationally in the Pacific in August 1943 where it participated in every major engagement of the war.

Keep in mind that deployed operationally means there was a predetermined number required by the military and until that number is reached the plane is not considered operational even though the planes prior reaching to the operational number are still in service.

Yes, saw it 8-)

great peice, Great stories behind this one too. I think they did a good job with the film they had to go along with the stories, maybe it was crunch time on why some film didn't really go along cause they said they had over 2000 hours of footage?

ya i saw it, definitely interesting i keep hoping I'll see my grandfather in it.

I recorded and watched all but 3 episodes that my machine somehow missed. >:( I liked that it was told more or less through the eyes of participants. It added a personal dimension that isn't always a part of retrospective film. It really illustrated the horrific nature of war.

I thought the editing was a little ragged. Some of the clips repeated more than I would have liked with as much film as they had, bit it's a minor complaint.

I would recommend that if you haven't seen it , and get the chance to take the time to watch it. It is worth seeing.

x2 I started watching one and but the g/f wouldn't have it so I just recorded it to watch later.

I thought it was excellent. I was glued to it.  Watched it several times over.  Hope it comes on again. Really brings home the fact that, "war is Hell"

I have them recorded and have watched all but 2 I believe so far.  Very interesting, and WW2 is something that I love finding more info about.  It also struck a cord to me to see if I would see anything on the USS Highlands by chance.  My grandfather was enlisted on the Highlands in the Pacific during WW2, and he passed away 5 years ago this coming Friday. I miss him terribly as we spent a lot of time wading the river together as I grew up.   My respect goes out to any veteran who has protected the freedoms of this great country.

I watched it.  I've gotten into the habit was watching some shows like this with the volume down.  The inaccuracies are just too much to bear, sometimes.

Lots of good footage.  Despite the claims, much had been shown before.  Quite a bit was colorized black and white film.
