Rage Tail Frog

Featured Replies

I finally tried out the new Strike King Rage Tail frogs/toads today.  I was in a bay off of the Potomac River that has large amounts of pads and hydrilla.  A storm had just rolled through the area a few hours before so I was dealing with post front conditions and slightly stained water with temps in the high 70s to low 80s.

I threw the frogs into some heavy cover and ran them across the top of the pads and hydrilla.  As soon as the frog fell back into the water the bass struck them violently and then ran with the bait.  Setting the hook was pretty easy as I was using Gamakatsu hooks and I always get good hook sets with them.  Reeling them in was a whole other issue because the cover was so thick.

I hooked into 6 keepers in a little under an hour, the largest was approximately 4 pounds and the smallest was about 1.5lbs. I must say I am extremely impressed with this bait and need to go buy a few more packages to keep in my tackle boxes.

What colors were working for you. I oringally went with the Watermelon/Red and  had good success, but I tell you I switched to GREEN PUMPKIN PEARL LAMINATE WOW , a hundred percent better.

Also try the Rage Tail Shad in Smokey Shad, Great baits all around.

I haven't used the Craw or Chunk.

I've had similar success with these frogs. They make a bigger wake than the ribbit frogs that I used to use, which I think triggers a more aggressive strike.

I've seen fish come completely out of the water to crush these baits. Perfect for fishing in the slop.

What is your favorite hook for the Rage Toads? Mine is 5/0 EWG heavy wire hook and Braid.

I use the 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG hooks and 30lb spiderwire. I just bought three more packs (two different colors) of the toads today and will be fishing these toads again tomorrow. These are a lot of fun to use and I hope to post up some pics tomorrow of some hawgs after I get back from fishing.

I've had some good luck with Rage Shad (smokey shad) and bought a pack of the frogs in green-pearl, will try them out this weekend, good to know you guys are using the same hooks I'm planning on rigging them with.  I hope they work as well for me as they have for you guys!

I went out again today and ripped some lips with these frogs again.  My buddy and I caught 11 lmbs using the rage tail frog, no hawgs today unfortunately, my biggest was 3lbs.  I will post a couple of pictures later on today.  Man these frogs really work sweet in the pads and grass and they are a must have for your tacklebox.

Rondef, you are making me jealous. I haven't been able to fish for a few days so I am getting a bit ancy reading your post.   :'(

I work nights this week to cover for our night shift person that is on vacation so I get to fish during the morning. I will be back at it with the frogs on Saturday when my son and I go out fishing. I am going to give him a couple to try and see if I can make a believer out of him. I think the two of us will be able to tear it up again with these frogs.

I'm having very good luck with them myself. I'm also having good luck with Zoom frogs as well. I'm catching alot of bass with them.
