First lesson on black ice!

Featured Replies

So I just had my first (and hopefully last) life lesson on black ice. I was taking my girlfriend home in my RWD Mustang and about 6 mins in I come around a curve only to find a nice long patch of black ice on my side of the road. I THOUGHT i had time to down shift before I hit it so I would be slowing down throughout the patch without me having to hit my breaks well apparently I was already on the patch of ice when I downshifted which everyone knows is bad news. Went sliding threw it in neutral and slide backwards into a tiny little divot about 6 inches from a fence...

And if you were wondering I was staying from 40-45 and the speed limit was 45. I know I should've been going slower.

Glad you're safe. A good reminder as the cold weather moves in for the next couple months.

Glad you are ok.

Close one.

Lesson learned.

Be safe. Go slow. Grow old and pay a lot into Social Security.

We are counting on you!  ;D   ;D   ;D

Glad your safe man, that stuff will kill ya before you know you hit it.  When you can walk away without being hurt it is a good way to gain new respect for bad winter driving. I watched a guy get killed coming around a curve just like that a few years ago, He went broad side into the semi ahead of me. We were driving on the shoulder at 20mph and he was coming at 50-60mph.  In the end we found that the black ice began half way through the curve; he never had a chance.  Two of the most helpless feelings are black ice and hydroplaning.

Again, glad no one was hurt. 8-)

could have been much, much worse.  Do you have winter tires on there?

Glad to hear you're ok. Those Mustangs really can get away from you easily in the ice. My wife wrecked her Mustang in some black ice about 4 years ago. Luckily she wasn't hurt either. She just hit a road sign and messed her car up a bit. Definitely go SLOW when the possibility of black ice is out there.

Ya Black Ice is the worst, doesnt matter if you have 4wd either once you get on it, its just like a skating rink.

Nope. Where I live in NC we barely see snow and once we do my dad is always keeping me off the roads anyways. It had been since Friday since it snowed and I knew there were some spots, I just didn't realize there were any that big. We are very lucky another car wasn't coming though.
