Anyone have any experience with this gun? im pretty set on buying it just want a little more feedback. It seems perfect for thick woods and shots under 150yrds which is what i will be using it for. Also would you recomend the 30-30 or .35 rem. for whitetail?

I have the 30-30 lever action and it's sick. Granted, I don't have much to compare it to, and I don't hunt, but I've shot it a ton out in the woods and the action is beautiful. I've been meaning to get into deer hunting for the last few years but just haven't gotten around to it. Someday.

Very popular in the Northeast due to the type of hunting done here (thick, typically shots >100yds).

I would be willing the bet that the 336 and Model 94 Winchester in 30-30 have accounted for more deer than just about any other caliber in the NE.

They used to sell an Accelerator 30-30 round that was basically a small sabot in a 30-30 casing.  That thing whizzed out around 3400FPS w/ a 55grain bullet. 

Definitely an "old school" caliber, but effective still.

It's side port ejection versus the Winchester's roof top makes it more user friendly for mounting scopes and in my opinion the action is also smoother than the Winchester's.  Until Winchester integrated a cross bolt safety a few years ago, that made for a great selling point for Marlin as they already had one.  Up to that point the Winchester lever gun was responsible for a lot of accidental discharges.

Not sure about the misfires, interesting.

I know on mine, mounting a scope was not a problem. I have had it for over 15 years. While the slide is on the top, the shells eject to the side. I have had no clearance issues whatsoever.

I like that too i can just pick up the 336 at my local wal-mart for 320 which seems like a steak for this gun. Thanks for all the input guys, just reasssured me some.

Speed if you are referring to my comments I was talking about accidental discharges not missfires. The older models with no crossbolt safety, accidently snag the hammer on clothing, brush, etc and ultimately walking around with the hammer fully cocked. As far as the side or top ejection, yeah, it's not huge deal, just that if you have one that's kinda ticky sometimes the spent shell will fall back into the receiver and jam once and a while.

Now that I'm thinking of it, Winchester may have even tweaked their receivers so even though they eject from the top, they do it at a bit of an angle because of scope issues.

I hunted with one in .35 Remington from my early teens to my 20s.  I like the .35 Rem with 15o grain bullets for deer, 200 grain for hogs.  The poi for me was almost exactly the same out to 150 yards.  Great gun, hunting accurate, easy to carry and handle, solid round that put deer down quickly from any angle when properly applied.
