Bass Players

Featured Replies

Noticed there's several bass players hanging around here - thought I'd throw up a pic (fortunately, my ugly mug isn't pointed at the camera).

I actually picked up this Stingray5 as a gift for my fiance (in pic). A couple of years ago I bought her a Modulus Quantum, but she never did get along with the scale length. Got rid of it and fell in love with the EB the second she strapped it on.

I'm not a bass player, but I completely dig it as well....more than the Modulus. It was a great instrument, but for the tones I prefer, the EB really delivers.

Feel free to post about your toys.

Nice bass String. Back in the day when I played bass, I always wanted to try an EB. I might need to get back into playing around some.

I use to play a lot but now a days I just don't get the Bass out very much anymore.

My main rig is a Shecter Stilleto Diamond Series 5-String with active pickups, a 4x10 Avatar Cabinet with a Randal Head.

I also have a Grand 4 string Acoustic/Electric Bass an Entry Level Ibanez Electric 4 sting and a Washburn 4 string, can't remember the model of that one.

Here's a stock pic of my Shecter.

That's a really nice photo!  I have about 14 basses 3 of which are projects.  I've had quite a few high end customs but "my tone" has led me back to more simple 4 string basses.  I really love the early 80's Japanese Squiers and other Japanese Fender clones from that era.  I also really like the neck thru Yamaha BB's series basses also from that same era.   I also have a Carvin frettless, and a nice Jazz parts bass built from some rather nice American made spare parts :)

I'll try to post some pics. Right now, all my bass photos are too big to post here.  I'll see what I have uploaded to my website that I can link to.

My "Parts Jazz"! Warmoth neck, Kubicki body (California), EMG pickups, Bartolini preamp, Badass bridge, all setup by a luthier named Steve Dvorak. He did an amazing job on the frets and brass nut and overall setup.  He also made the 4 layer tort pickguard.   This bass just plain magic and I would NEVER part with it. It no longer has the goofy Fender decal :o

Very nice my friend.  EB makes a very nice bass.  Got a nice wide neck, which I like, & a nice round but fat tone.  They don't do a lot of different tones but the few they get are excellent.

I play Warrior basses.  The one in my AV I don't have anymore because I sold it to buy a ring for my then fiance now wife.  But I still have my Warrior Isabella which is twice the bass as that other one.

I also have an all original 76 Fender P-bass which I don't play that much but absolutely love.

This is my MUCH loved, early 80's Yamaha BB1000s.  The easy playability of the neck and punchy sound is just awesome.

Beautiful J-bass Knifemaker.  I've got a S1 series strat in that exact same color scheme with a rosewood neck.

I love it!!  I'm a P bass nut!!  :)

Thanks! I'm much more into my Yamaha's and Precision basses but that's my one and only keeper Jazz!!

I used to have one of these goofy things in a 5 string when I used to do a lot of fly dates. Actually a surprisingly good sound. Never really did get used to the feel of it but sure made flying with a bass much easier.

I sold this Mike Lull P5. I've just given up with 5 strings and it went for a while getting no love :( This bass was amazing considering it weighed under 8 lbs!!

Man what a nice bass.  I traded basses with a friend of mine for about 3 months one time.  I got his Mike Lull bass & he got my Warrior Studio.  I've got to say that that Mike Lull was an amazing bass.  Very light like you said with amazing punch & tone.  Sad that there are so many bass players out there that don't even know what a Mike Lull bass is.

I've bought quite a few preowned basses on the TalkBass forum.  Buying preowned from reputable sellers keeps the cost down and allows me to try a lot of different basses.  I've probably bought and sold at least 50 basses over the past 5 years.  What I have now are all pretty much keepers.  What I find amazing is cost is usually not a consideration when looking for quality and tone.  Most of the basses I own now are under or even well under $500.  All my expensive customs have gone and I really have no interest in buying anymore.   I recently bought a full scale size, Squier bullet bass with a CV ( '83 Japan) era serial number.  It will hang with ANY American Fender in build quality, playability and sound.  I paid $250 plus shipping for it.  I need to upload more pics to my website.

I had two Ibanex Axstars over the years.  They were supposed to be Ibanezes answer to Steinberger.  The Axstars were really nice basses, probably ones I should have kept.  They were full scale and took regular strings and were VERY well made.  I just love the 80's Japan basses.

My situation worked out exactly the opposite  ;D

I had several BCR's but the best one I had was an American made Eagle.  I even had Neal Moser sign the truss rod cover.  He was the man at BC Rich behind their famous electronics back in the day and now builds his own line of custom guitars and basses.

This is a bass that I should have kept.....REALLY should have kept  :-/
