Riggin a bait in a way not intended and it works!

Hey Fellas: Roadwarrior and a  Zel were bustin on me for doing this BUT IT WORKS!

I was using some ShakeyHead 2 Jig heads and some Fottbal jig heads and Grubs a couple of weeks ago, and ran outta grubs. So I put on a Brown * by *** aka Fat Ika by Yammamoto and used it as a jig body.

The Ika and Wayne are both shapped like a grub except they have a skirt on the rear and are a lot thicker. The fish jumped em right away, I think on certain days the wider profile of the bait is a key difference.

Now Zel and RW both were quick to say Theyare supposed to be dead sticked with EWG hooks, both of them put them on backwards with the skirt end on top. I have used them this way sucessfully ( both brands) , especially for smallies. Zel was surprised to see how quick it put a fish in the boat

ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE DOING THIS?

Haven't tried them that way. IMHO sometimes there is no right or wrong, just what works for you :(...

In spring I use the fat ika alot, but not backwards nor weightless. I use it with 1/8-1/4 sinker t-rigged. It works. Also have used them as jig trailers.

Nice fish T-rig!

I do stuff like that when nothing else works. One of my favorite set ups is a screw lock football jig with a 3 ?/4 inch kicker craw. I usually cut a hook slot becaus they're thick.

I tried an Ika on a Shaky2 head, and had no success with it. i really thought it was worth a shot. I'll have to try it again after reading your report.

For a non-traditional use, I'll submit a friend of mines tactic with the Fat Ika.

He rigs it skirt down, like a tube, on a 4/0 EWG hook, and adds a couple of bull shot about a foot up the line. He casts it out, lets it sink, and then retrieves it like a crankbait. He catches fish doing this. I've tried it, and can't catch a thing.

I guess it pays to remember that there are no rules, just results.
