New Years Fishing Resolution

Featured Replies

I did a search, but did not find anything, so I am starting this thread. Does anyone have a new years fishing resolution? Each year I try to learn something new about fishing.  Last year I decided I wanted to learn how to use a baitcaster and now I own 5 of them.  This year I want to really learn how to effectively fish with a worm.  I am usually one of those guys that likes to cast and reel and cast and reel all day long.  I use a lot of crank baits, swimbaits and jigheads with twister tails.  I really want to have the patience and learn how to correctly fish with a worm whether it be Texas rigged, wacky, or shakey head.  Does anyone have anything they would like to learn this year?  Plus any tip to help me achieve my goal are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Chuck

Worms are pretty easy and the best part is,

your rewards come quickly. Regardless of the

lure, location is everything. Perhaps the most

productive fishing for numbers is in grass and

along grasslines. Generally you will rig weightless

and weedless in relatively shallow water. Otherwise,

T-rigged or with a split shot.

Cast, let the bait drop and sit, then lift your rod.

Repeat until you feel you are out of the zone. That's

the basics! For much greater detail, read "Fishing

Articles" and "Tacklebox", accessed at the top of

the page.

I'm focusing on spinnerbaits this year.

I had a hard time with stick bait worms when first starting out.Like you I fished a lot of "moving" baits was was used to chucking and winding in. Stick baits you got to train yourself to slow down....way down. Good way to get started, use road warrior's advice.Don't be afraid to let that worm/stickbait sit in one spot for a little bit. Requires a little bit of patience.

I'm trying to do a little more shakey head fishing and reapply the drop shot again(haven't done that in awhile for some strange reason). My main goal is to not get hurt and fish all the way through the season.I broke my wrist last year...right at the peak fishing time. :'( I'm just gonna have fun this season regardless what I do.

I must confess that I've had the same resolution for several years now, and I always, I mean ALWAYS fail to carry through with it.  So this year I am going to try even harder.

Everytime a jetski or water skier flies by at close range, I going to wave at them.  And I'm going to try to make sure they can see more than one finger!   ;D

I did not get to fish as much as I like last year. There will be no excuses this year.

I want to work on a few things...

-night fishing

-spinnerbaits

-fly rod using poppers

This year I am going to fish in a few tournaments. As a kid I fished in several small tournaments around where I live and won a fair amount of them. Baseball has always taken away my opportunities to fish in tournaments, but this year I am too old to play baseball. There is nothing I love more in life than to compete in whatever it is that I'm doing. Fishing is going to have to take up for the competition that I have lost with baseball. This year, I want to fish competitively and actually compete with the competition.
