New Ipod touch - Help!

Recommended Posts

The wife just got a Ipod Touch.  Now, we have been using napster with our Sansa MP3 players and a Napster 2Go subscription which cost $14 per month to download as many songs as you want on up to 3 mp3 players.  Where can you get I tune compatible downloads without having to pay a dollar a piece?

I tried BearShare, but most of the songs will not convert to the Ipod format.

Any ideas for the technologically challenged?

what is the reason Napster won't work with her iPod?

i don't know if itunes has this featuers but zune marketplace has a subscription option that allows you to download as many songs as you want, like your napster subscriptions.

you could also get a youtube to mp3 converter and get songs off youtube (dvd videosoft has a good one)

The ipods have software in them that prevents you from using Napster 2 Go.  You can buy individual tracks from Napster but that is no different than buying them from itunes.

I use this website to download all of my music...

http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

All you do is go to youtube and find the song you want, copy the URL, paste it into the website and press convert, then download. Once you do that you can open it into your iTunes and put it on the iPod.

Best of all, its free!!

good luck, if you cant figure that out, I can help you with any other questions.

Its not so much Napster as it is Apple.   Everything basically has to pass through iTunes to go onto the iPods or iTouch.

Just don't understand why people put up with this crap. There's far too much competition out there to put up with Apple's BS, imho.

So you have downloaded the files from Napster and placed on another MP3 player that is not an Ipod?  Do you know what format the files are being saved as?  There are multiple ways around the security crap that Apple is giving you and you can transfer all those files as you would like.  Let me know if you can find out what type of file they are saving as and I can be of more assistance.  Apple seems like a bad company to everyone, but in the end they are no different than you or I am by protecting what is legally theirs.

Napster is compatible with ipods, napster to go is not. Apple is just making it harder for people to steal music and put it on their products. There are ways to convert the music so it will work on ipods. If you plan on using a music program other than itunes you should do your homework to see if it is compatible with apple products.

that site is good but it only allows you to download one song at a time.

with this program: http://dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-to-MP3-Converter.htm you can load the queue with URLs and then click download and just leave the program running to convert as many songs as you like.

I tried until my Zune died due to a known hardware issue that Microsoft had no interest in resolving, unless I wanted to buy another.

what issue? my zune has done some wacky stuff from time to time but i can usually resolve it with a hard reset. other than a few glitches here and there its still going strong after 3 years, wish i got a 120 though, my 80gb is almost full. they came out with the 120's just 3 months after i bought my 80 >:(

Thanks Dave.  The videosoft program seems to be doing exactly what I want it to.  In fact I'm going to ditch napster and also get the music for my sansa using it.
