THE CREME FALLS TO THE BOTTOM

Recommended Posts

It has been shot for awhile. Even before this there were questions about how local businesses who support the program always had current memorabilia hanging up. And about the favors being done for this. Former players were disputing what the school said in regards to this particular incident and acknowledged how long its been happening.

Most of those guys are dirty to some extent... pretty much have to be in order to be competitive. Well, that is with the exception of the Sooners of course.

What bothers me the most regarding this unfortunate situation is that Coach Tressel did what he did for himself and only himself: to defeat an SEC team.

He knew that if he mentioned this to the NCAA during their investigation into the players attending the agent's party he would have lost some of his best players for the Sugar Bowl.

So to make sure he had the best chance to defeated an SEC school he did not disclose the situation.

If the NCAA makes TOSU vacate the Sugar Bowl win will Tressel be 0-10 against SEC schools???

I guess he is no Joe Paterno.  :'(

I guess what I was really trying to say was that college football is very corupt , even in the SEC , so you southern boys really shouldn't pile on.

I think the players should have been suspended for the Sugar Bowl and continue serve out the sentence next year, but that just me. It was a dumb move by NCAA to allow them to defer their suspension.

There was a player at Alabama before bowl game, he got suspended for bowl game instead being deferred to next season. Even though his penalty was different from what OSU players did, but still.

Eh, screw it every conference has some form of rule breaking going on. Oregon is under investigation by NCAA too. It's sad and it even sadder that many of the fans and boosters are putting the pressure to cheat.

Flip & Pitch, what Tressel did had nothing to do with money.

It had to do with winning.

I guess the Canadians in Michigan are happy.  :D

It comes around and goes around. EVERY major college football team "pushes" the envelope. Many times the coaching staff will committ a secondary violation to "stand out from the crowd" and then go ahead and "self-report" it which essentially ends up being a "ok, but don't do it again" message from the NCAA.

In my opinion, the NCAA should rewrite their 4000 page rule book to include all attempts at cheating or beating the system, and make about 200 rules that make sense and can be followed, and then HEAVILY punish the violators which in this case would certainly include Jim Tressel. I am talking a year long suspension WITHOUT pay...no recruiting off campus for same time frame, loss of scholarships for that year, etc. Until the NCAA starts dropping the hammer, this type of behavior will continue.

Don't get me started on the SEC....SEC......SEC, can you say oversigning? and is there a single person on this forum that doesnt think Auburn isn't going to be punished at some point for the Cam Newton situation?

Please, It happens everywhere. Usually the coaches are smart enough to stay far enough away so they can have "plausible deniability".

The media doesn't help. It is being reported that OSU self reported more violations from 2000-2009 than any other school, but to clarify, that is from ALL sports(including womens) in the largest athletics department in the country...not just from football.

Why does it happen.....MONEY. Which is why OSU most likely will not get a severe penalty from the NCAA.
