NFL Locked Out.

Recommended Posts

This is absolutely ridiculous. The biggest money making sport in the country and the two sides can't agree on anything. Just from what I have heard on ESPN, it sounds like the Players union didn't have any intention of making a new deal. I still am not that worried about it because I am almost willing to bet that their will still be football come September. The people I am worried about are the free agents though because they can't sign a new contract until this mess gets worked out. For their sakes I hope something gets done soon.

I believe it was the biggest money making sport in the world when they did the same thing 25, or so, years ago.

Just remember, to make that kind of money, they need to get it from someone, or a lot of someones.

An old Yankee (as in New Englander) told me years ago, "If you want to make a living, provide something people need.  If you want to get rich, provide something people want."

Both sides, labor and management, are on an ego trip as much as a greed trip.

It is ridiculous.  If you look at it one way you can say the players are getting greedy,  but its the owners that won't disclose their financial records.  I guess I don't blame the players,  however,  if I made a fraction of the amount of $ they do,  I wouldn't be complaining.

Don't get me wrong,  these people are good at what they do and it involves hardwork,  skill,  stress,  expectations,  among other things.  Just goes to show that no matter how much $ a person makes they still want more.

I find this really plain stupid...... I cant believe the players making buccoo money are seriously trying to suck out more. The owners have made key investments and shouldn't have to disclose how much money they are making. They invested the money and deserve to be rewarded by making the money.

Human nature is to be greedy regardless which side your on.  The NFL is no different than any other business, employees get paid what the market will bear, in the case of the athletes it can be a lot of money.

As a business owner I never had an employee that thought they were overpaid and I never thought they were worth what I paid them.  The debate between ownership and labor will go on forever.

Owners and players need to read the fable of the Golden Goose.  So do us fans, after all, we're the Golden Geese.  Best solution would be a "fan lockout", if the season is screwed up, don't buy any NFL logo stuff, don't watch or go to games for the rest of the season, or what there is of a season.

It's easy to boycott their merchandise, not going to the games is another matter.  Most, or at least a good portion of the seats are season tickets, already bought and paid for.

The NFL and the teams don't care if they don't show up.  They've got their money.  And since they paid out the money, the fans may as well get what they paid for.

If the season is cancelled or otherwise altered, I would expect the ticket holders could get a refund.

Having TV ratings go in the toilet would likely be the most effective message to send the two parties.

Lower ratings make their product less valuable.  While it may be baseball, Steinbrenner could always win the bidding wars because of the fabulous money he got from television rights, not ticket sales.

It will be interesting to watch it play out.

It makes me sick. I don't think the players should have access to the owners financial records. I also don't think the owners should be asking for another two games...b/c the fans want it. That is crap. Most teams don't make it thru a 16 game season intact, let alone adding two more.

the supposed "reduction" of two pre-season games is crap as well since most starters don't play or only play a series. All this will do is handcuff teams even more with decision making regarding new/undrafted free agents.

Greed. Both sides.

Should get some more fishing in this fall and winter then.

Honestly, I have pretty much written the entire league off. Doubly so after I read a pity party news article on MSNBC a while back about how all these poor players live paycheck to paycheck. 350k a year minimum and they live paycheck to paycheck.

I make less than a 3rd of that and you would never catch me whining about how little I make.

Given the events in Japan, the flooding in the North East US. the high unemployment, foreclosures, etc, I am so done with these whiny athletes and actors who have no idea how the real world runs.

Besides I am a Panthers fan and we ain't winning anything this year anyway. lol.

My wife worked with a football player from Detroit lions at McDonald's a few years back. I say sent their ***** to McDonald's and the likes doing it minimum wage and that 350K a year salary will look highly acceptable to them again.

My hunch is that everyone involved is aware of the consequences and they certainly don't care what the public thinks...Isn't it my money?...
