Yeah, I do not know what gets them so dark.  I have caught some bigger than that with pretty "tiger" markings, but, most are really, really dark.  The pond is kidney shaped with trees along probably 70% of it.  Stays a little stained most of the time.  Not sure if that does it, or what.  I just know they can be fun to catch on lite tackle.   ;)

    I think the darker ones might be hybrids. Possibly a bluegill/crappie hybrid??
