striper fishing

Featured Replies

planning to go with my brother and uncle to Kentucky Dam area to striper fish.. I noticed from an earlier thread that live bait was the best.  Is there any other pointers I could get as far as what to use to catch a few... Is live bait the only way or do bass lures work as well...thanks so much    darren

Sometimes the stripers bust shad on the surface and you can fish topwater or jerkbaits. Lots of guys fish sassy shad, spoons and bucktail jigs. However, the guys that catch most of the striper are using live bait. That's all I ever use. The easiest technique is a simple split shot rig.

I was fishing the other day and caught 25 stripers in a little over 2 hours with a yellow rooster tail... I never thought of using a rooster tail until i saw someone else nailing them with it...

For schooling stripers, anything with a paddletail works ;)
