Question for the Redfishers.

Featured Replies

I have caught redfish before, but have only targeted them specifically a couple of times. I have used my snapper and cobia gear, or loaned gear. I just bought a Quantum Accurist PTS, but want to use one of my bass rods(until I can get a G.Loomis or comparable rod). Which one of these BC rods would you use?

G.Loomis BCR803 (6'8" MH, extra fast)

G.Loomis MBR783(6'6" MH, fast)

Quantum Tour PT (7' M, moderate fast)

I have a spinning setup that I plan on using as well, it's a Cabela's Salt Striker combo(30 size reel and 7' Medium).

For reds I would go with MH at the minimum   ;)

I agree with Catt. I have a 7ft. MH Claurus, a 7ft BPS Extreme, a 7ft Mh Cape Fear and A 7 ft Key Largo, all spinning rods, that I use in the salt. You could probably land a smaller drum on the medium power but if you get a big bull red you might be in trouble. Plus you never know what might hit you line, ie Black Drum, Shark etc.

Man wiht all this talk about saltwater fishing, I may have to return to the inshore scene this summer.

It depends what your throwin at them.

the mbr 783 and bcr 803 both have a 3 power rating but you will notice that the bcr is stiffer.   The increased length also makes for adding casting distance and surer hook set.   It would be my first choice,

However the MBR 783 is truly a magic wand.  Light strong, flexible at the tip....a magnificent rod....If your throwing topwaters, or treble hooked plugs it will do the job...and with an added fun factor to boot.

good luck and have fun.  8-)

Thanks guys, I think i will probably take both of the G.Loomis rods. Now if I can get a little time away from work to head toward Dauphin. Avid, you are right the 783 is a magic wand, it is my all-purpose, throw anything rod.
