i love fishing for bluegill because they put up a good fight for there size. ill be using a spinning rod. what typed of bait, artifical and live bait should i use.

i have salmon eggs, rooster tails, panther martins, spoons, just wondering if any of these things would work.

I have used small Kastmaster spoons in the past, but in the last few years I've been using small crankbaits, such as a very small Countdown Rapala or Mini Fat Rap. But I do believe that if there are willing bluegills in the area, they'll be willing to hit virtually any appropriately sized artificial.

They are indeed great fighters on an ounce-for-ounce basis.

Flyrod!  Small popper with a 12" trailer off the hook with a sinking fly on that.   If the floating popper does not get them, the sinking fly will. Most fun I ever have fishing is bream on the flyrod.

Use the smallest white curly tail grub you can find on a 1/64 jig head using 4-pound test on an ultra light spinning rig.

A one-inch grub is the best.

I nail them right and left.

Also caught a 6 pound lady bass on this rig plus an 8 pound catfish.

You can use a barrel swivel to help stop some of the line twist.

Also, a Roostertail is a great lure but that one-inch white grub catches them EVERY time.

just wonderinng what hook size you guys use, if you use and weight , and if you use a bobber or not.

and how do you tell if you get a but because its so suttle.

Crickets and breadballs work well also.  The best looking redbreasted sunfish I ever caught was with a breadball while fishing with kids.

for artificial I like beetlespins

and for a flyrod I like poppers.

Ditto.  Those foam ants are killers.  Black has been my best color.

Use a LONG SHANK #4 or #6 gold hook for bluegills and bream.

The LONG SHANK hooks make hook removal easier.

Look at the bard's size and decide which size best meets your needs.

And you will know when they hit your bait as they usually hook themselves.

Good fighters, too.

Can't beat 'gils to save a day or get a kid hooked on fishing.

Don't be afraid to try different color grubs. Recently I took my nephew and we couldnt get a bite on the normal colors until we kicked up a couple black crickets by the waters edge. Put on a black grub and he proceed to get bite every cast.

I always used live bait.  Crickets and red wigglers under a bobber.

Nothing beats real worms. Either garden worms or night crawlers ripped in half. As soon as they hit the water your going to have a fish on.

Recently I have been using poppers and jointed rapala's to catch some good size blues.
