Some of the guys up here are using rubber o-rings or even large split rings to wacky rig their senkos. They swear up and down that it makes the bait last much longer. But when I tried it my hookup percentage went down and it seemed to slightly change the action. Note that when you do this the hook is parallel to the worm instead of perpendicular. Any one else use this technique?

I tried it once (only had one o-ring) and it seemed to give the senko more action.  I hooked up on a small bass but I guess the o-ring got wet and slipped so I lost the bait.  Give it a try.

Electrical tape.

i use the o rings with bill m's wacky rig tool.never have a hookup issue.senkos last a lot longer.

For a standard or 5" Senko use 3/8" heat shrink cut in a 1/4" width and put in the center of the bait. You can heat it up to get it bind more if you want to but be careful not to burn the bait.  You don't have to heat it up for it to work as it's just adding structural integrity to the soft plastic so it doesn't tear as quickly.

Run the hook through the shrink wrap and the bait. Will help keep the bait in tact a little longer and hopefully save you some $$$ along the way.

I use zip ties and tighten them to how I want.

I went to Lowe's yesterday to get some more electrical shrink tubing and they don't carry the GB brand any more, now they carry Ideal and it has a blue label. The shrink tubing can be used in place of the O ring or split ring if you prefer the parallel hook rigging-it costs less and is easier to find a supply and easier to use.

I use the O-rings. I bought the tool at Bass Pro. It comes with a few rings, ten I think. I buy my additional rings in bulk at the local hardware store.

Try a brand that doesn't tear so quickly

LBH, there are compromises but no substitutes for Senkos. It has no design flaws-its copies are the ones with design flaws. Its durability is not a factor in its effectiveness. The whole idea is to have a product that works. Its no different than using live golden shiners for bass, you basically get one hit per shiner and its done. There a lots of live shiner compromizes-swimbaits, crankbaits, etc but none are as effective in the right situation.
