Rainbow trout on a Redeye Shad

Featured Replies

Went testing out my new rod and reel combo and was throwing a redeye sexy chrome shad, and the rainbow trout that they just stocked in my lake were hammering it.  I've never seen anything like that, Rainbows hitting a loud lipless crank... They wouldn't hit anything else, I tried spinners, tiny cranks, etc... Never knew trout fought so hard either... And they tasted great!

Caught a couple of early bass too, but they weren't biting so good, there was still some ice on the lake...

I don't have much rainbow experience, but I'm not surprised. I've taken a number of browns, lakers and cohos on lipless and I think rainbow would too if they were present where I catch those others.

Someone just posted last week about a trout hitting a lipless crank...

This Chinook took a Rattlin' Rapala in the Genny:

i caught a 4 lb. rainbow on a rapala DT10 silver shad color http://www.***.com/descpageHARDRAPALA-RDT.html# thought is was a toad the way he was fighting , oh well , sure did taste good tho ;D it amazes me that a trout will hit a good size crankbait like that , i was using a 15 lb. flourocarbon line leader attached to 30 lb. power pro braid , but then be skittish around anything other than 2-4 lb. test line when im using powerbait or nightcrawlers and TRYING to catch trout  :-?
