Fish a cast

Went to my " private" beach( not private but seldom see other fisherman, lot of women ;)) this morning and for at least 1/2 mile in each direction fish were pounding the bait.  Sometimes there's a lot fight in a small dog, these dogs being ladyfish.  For roughly 45 minutes it was a fish per cast, lost 4 plastic shad, 2 spoons and a xrap, either bitten in 2 or a snapped leader..they hit anything.  Lose a fish on the jump and another one on the line before you have reeled another 5'.

These are not glamour fish or are they very big, but a sensational fight on light tackle and if you like aeriel acrobatics this is great fun.

For those of you unfamiliar with this species.

That's totally cool. Lady fish, also referred to as "poor mans tarpon" because of their acrobatic jumps, are a blast to catch.  Especially on light tackle.  Small ladyfish are killer jumbo Snook bait too.

I'm going to have to hit the beach I guess.   What times were you out there and were you north or south of Lake Worth?

I seldom go to Lake Worth beach. My usual routine is to hit the inlet early, but I'm getting bored there, fish for a bit and I have some buddys hang out there. I drive down to Gulfstream beach, park opens at about 6:45 so at about 5;45 or so I park in one of the condo lots and hit the beach for snook. At 6:45 I drive a few blocks back to the park and work the beach for an hour or 2.

It's not always this hot, many days it's dead, but when the bait is in it's a good spot.  I landed a nice 10# or so jack and hooked a big tarpon the other day. No beach mullet like Juno but a lot of white bait, mullet be here soon with some rough weather I hope.

Hardly ever is there anyone fishing there, get a few during the mullet run.......it's my private spot ;)

Gulfstream is good.  We used to get a lot of "off loads" there. (cocaine and marijuana)

ladyfish are quite fun, i agree.....

especially larger ones, those things have certainly got some fight to them..... suppose thats why one of their nicknames is "10 pounder" ;)

a couple months ago, i had pretty much your same scenario at a power plant near titusville in the indian river.....

me and my pal caught a lady fish on pretty much every other cast, with the same situation.... miss one, and hook up on another before you get the lure in!!

its about the only day i can remember where we both agreed that we were too hungry to continue fishing!!!!!  cause the onslaught lasted for nearly 3.5 hours before we had enough.........

sounds crazy now that i see it being said, but yes..... we had simply caught too many fish to continue!

so congrats on your day.........

they dont happen too often, but i do know how much fun they are!!!!!

...hopefully, you or i will encounter this again soon.

Great fish when they dont bleed all over you and the boat!   They make super snook bait too.
