Help! what lures do you guys use for peacock bass?

Featured Replies

I have been bass fishing for over 15 years in south Florida, and i have yet to get a peacock bass!lots of big lg bass! any tips would be appreciated.

rattle traps and zoom flukes with the twitch , twitch pause retrieve always worked well for me when i was down there.

as for color , i always used green/chart. tail or baby bass colors. never had any luck with the whites.

Xraps and facsimiles, top lures and my favorite gold spoon, anything that has some flash to it.  Best place close is heading south, Coral Springs, I get them in the canals around Boca and Delray.

i lived/fished in south dade in a local small neighborhood lake and also fished in miramar in a gated community. from what ive read and heard , all the good peacock fishing is north of where i was at.

the traps i threw were the orangish color. cant recall the name of the color though. they also love to tare up original floating rapalas. i have alot more 'gear' now than i did when i was down there so when i go back to visit in a couple weeks i have plenty to try and ill be sure to post up what worked and what didnt.

thanks for the input sirsnookalot and sqhertz. i live in boca raton and i have fished everywhere around here and i cant catch peacocks! >:( is their a better time of day? do they hit at night? are you fishing for peacocks or are you guys bass fishing and just happen to catch a peacock?sorry for all the questions, but it is really disheartening not being able to catch one in 15 years! :-[

i always fished for bass in general as i use the exact tackle for both LM and peacocks. i found that i always cought something like 6 peacocks to 1 largemouth everyplace i went.

i usually fished morning through late afternoon , not too much after dark.

Like the guys before said, same as regular bass baits, with lots of flash! Husky jerks (any jerk bait), X-Raps, shallow running crankbaits. I even caught them on plastic worms. Look for some rocky bottom. Here is a Florida Sportsman article which will guide you to some of south Floridas most popular peacock canals. Best of luck!
