been doin alot of trout fishin

Featured Replies

Went trout fishin 5 times this week including today. I jus can't get enough of it. In the 5 times I went I caught 26 native an stocked browns an bows. It still ranks second to bass fishin, but it's still a lot of fun. Especially when you're catchin so many ;).

If yall've been catchin any trout lately, post some pics on here. I'd love to see'em.

X2, awesome fish.

J Francho,

Are you using spinner rod or fly rod at those steams? Nice trout by the way.

I have a few setups for trout, depends on the stream and conditions:

13' UL/Slow and centrepin

11' L/mod-fast casting rig and TD-X with a deep spool

9.5' spinner

7' M/M casting rig with same TD-X

84% of my stream fishing is trotting a float rig. 1% bottom bouncing.  15% swinging spoons or plugs.

In open water, I generally use my dropshot rig, for casting spoons, spinners, and small minnow baits.

First day out today. Took the neighbors new jon boat.

Did pretty good. A few got off at the boat, and one got off the stringer somehow. :(

All stocked fish and all caught on Joe's Flies.

Pic is not very good. Lotta glare marks.

It was something to do, and had fun, but I am still going nuts waitin on bass! ;D

I'd say yall had a pretty good day!

An yeah I hear ya, I'm so glad spring has finally come around. Wading in that cold river water was starting to get to me.

Wow!  You are my hero.

By the way, how can you tell native trout from stocked trout?

I read an article a while back about stocked trout. One of the main differences it talked about was that a lot of stocked trout get their fins rubbed off from being so close to all the other trout when they are growing, before they get released.

I think native trout an much prettier. Their colors are much more vibrant than stocked trout. I've also noticed that native trout put up a much better fight than stocked ones. Also a lot of the time natives tend to be harder to catch then stocked too. I've never really noticed this, but I've also heard some people say that natives taste better than stocked.

Ive been waiting for the water to warm up so I can start targeting Bass, but in the mean time I have discovered my new Favorite Trout Lure. Its a 1/8 oz Acme Kastmaster in the Gold color. I havent caught large fish or a huge numer of them, but even the stockers are fun when using an Ultralight setup.

As far as Stockers VS. Native. All the fish I catch are Stockers, their pectoral fins are all but gone. Cant understand how they can still steer themselves around. I believe it occurs at the hatchery when the fish are all bunched up in the raceways before they get hauled off to be stocked.

Where'd ya go? Just did a 5 day stint at Linnville, Wilson, then Little river, and cranberry creek. Got my creel limit every day.

Wilson was especially jumping. One day hit my limit in an hour.

Got back from a conference in Colorado a week ago. Managed to sneak off for a day fly fishing and got 5 nice ones. Here's a couple of pics. The latter is (or so I'm told...) a cutbow -- rainbow/cutthroat hybrid. A first for me!

All the fish were caught on #22 midge, 4wt line and 6x (~3lb) tippet.
