Just A Lazy Afternoon

The terrible thunderstorms yesterday and howling winds today, made for a lousy weekend for fishing with a boat. So, an ole' friend of mine &  I (like I'm not old!) hit a small local pond, just foolin' around, each with one UL rig and a small box of jigs. Red wing black birds were hither & yon on stretches of reed banks. Two gaggles of geese, with their chicks, let us know we were not to come too close.

Tough casting and feeling the bites, but we probably caught (and released of course!) about 3 or 4 dozen crappie and another dozen yellow perch in about 2 1/2 hrs. of fishing, from around the shoreline. Nothing big or note worthy, but a lot of fun! Got most of them on 2" motor oil curlies on 1/16 oz. jig heads (2# test mono). Great way to spend a couple of hours fishing with a good friend. No pressure....no competition.

I know a lot of folks love tossing crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, etc. and are bass hunters of the first degree. However, sometimes it's really, really nice to just step back a bit, get down to basics and just have a good time, fishing with good friends. And not take our fishing so seriously! I hope you all had an opportunity to enjoy a bit of fishing and camaraderie this week. I did and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to tell you all.

I couldn't agree more. We had the same high winds yesterday and now our temps are in the low 60's here.

I think I'm gonna hit the pond tonight with my ultra lite rig.

Good idea, Crestliner ;)

Too much lightning here yesterday, I kept the boat in the driveway. A guy in CT died after being hit by lightning while on a jetty.

No fishing here yesterday or today. Yesterday's winds were probably the strongest, longest blowing winds I have seen in a long long time. Tree litter everywhere. Colder than normal both days.

I'm with you. Nothing better than spending time fishing with a friend or family. I don't need large bass to make my day. Crappies and perch are just fine, thank you. All caught on UL equipment is icing on the cake. :) :)

You had my kind of day! 8-)

Absolutely. Thanks for that post. Nice to step back and just enjoy a simpler form of fishing. The joy is all there, and the "pressure" is left behind. One could get used to that.  :)
