Trout in Accotink Creek? Annandale, Va

Featured Replies

Has anyone fished this area for trout? Is it worth getting up at 5 am and fish it?

I am a noob at trout fishing but just read there are Trout in a stretch of Accotink and after today trout license isnt required.

Thanks.

not sure if they're still stocking it. but you can check the vdgif website to see if they are. it's usually pretty crowded at the dam when they do stock it though.  I've never fish another other part of accotink for trout. sorry if that wasn't much help.

they stop stocking it in march normally. I'm pretty sure they didn't even stock it this year due to all the construction. I think Fairfax was the only local stock program.

I go running along the path next to this creek a lot. It's mostly very shallow with a few slightly deeper holes. It is a very "urban" creek... also known as Acco-stink. :) I've never seen a fish bigger than about 4" in there but I haven't actually fished it. I think most of the stocked trout have either been caught or have died by now... they don't last very long at all in that water. Personally, I doubt I'd ever fish there but if you do decide to, I'd recommend parking at the lake dam and walking downstream half a mile or more where it gets a lot less foot traffic. If any trout have survived, that's where they'll be. Let us know if you go!

Thanks guys. I still may this Saturday. I have nothing else to do. Its been really longs since I caught a trout, figured its worth a shot. Otherwise just go down to the lake and catch a bass or two  :)

Strangely enough, some fish do carry over year to year, especially hen we have a cool summer like last year.  Try in the stretch in/around Wakefield Park at Braddock and 495.  There's panfish in there as well to keep you occupied if the trout aren't around.
