Featured Replies

My buddy and I are looking to fish for Bowfin close to northern virginia.  Does anyone know of any areas?  I've only found places in West Va or Va Beach area.  Thanks!

For lots of Bowfin, and big Bowfin, I recommned yoiu drive a few hours south to Chickahominy Lake.  Rent a boat with a 6hp motor at Ed Allens, go a few hundred yards down the lake and park it at the dam.  Drop shot live minnows near the ends of the dam.  You will catch bowfin after bowfin after bowfin.  They are absolutely destructive.  They will test your bass gear and give you a great workout.

Chickahominy Lake is the single best lake in Virginia for Bowfin.

Go to the Potomac and fish for Snakehead. not to steveyour post or anything...

Back on topic, Josh... I have no idead where to fish for bowfin outside of the BPS tank.. sorry.

i can't tell you a specific lake, but i can tell you that if you can find some backwaters or coves with stagnant water, that's where they'll be concentrated. and i absolutely, accidentally slay em with plastic craws

I know near Old Mill park in Fredericksburg there's this old run down plant that has em. Years ago my buddy pulled one out had to be over close to 4 feet in length. At least in our eyes it was,we was teens then. This is when Chesney's (I think that's right?) tackle shop was around. The plant had no trespassing signs up but we fished there anyways. Got ran off by cops once too. Now I just catch them at pond's in AP hill. Ni reservoir has them too. My brother' brother in law caught a 4lber from there.

I also heard the Mataponi river near Caroline county has em too. Somebody told me they caught an 8lber from there off Stone Wall Jackson. I'm not sure if true or not.
