Any opinions on Vibrax?

Featured Replies

I have used these a lot when I lived in New York and since I have been in Carolina, you can barely find a place to buy them. Anyway, I ordered some spinners online and tried 'em out in Lake Wylie last year. I started hitting Brim and Bass like crazy. Whatever was going on that day, they loved 'em.

However, at least around others I seem to be the only person who ever seems to even own any. So my question, does anyone else out there use them, have any opinions on them? I am particularly interested in the mid-deep running spinners.

If I can't get anything to go, I cast a vibrax for a while. I usually catch a few.

I use them from time to time. They catch fish, but I can't really notice that they catch any more or less than equivalent size Mepps.

vibrax minnow spin is definitley in my top 10 lures, possibly even in my top 5.

i cast it on an ultralight spinning combo and it will catch any predator in the lake!!!!!!!!!

I have good luck with the shallow spinners in just about every color. I've caught perch, large mouths, small mouths, bluegills, and crappie on them

I personally prefer sonic rooster tails myself...

Most inline spinners work great.  I always have four or five Mepps Black Furies in my box.

Hate the line twist though.

Not insulting your intelligence, but use a small snap swivel.  Fix ya right up

As far as the Vibrax, I havent used the small ones since I stopped fishing for trout.

The larger tandem bucktails are a great spinner to burn for muskies.  That little blade on them makes just enough thump...

I think what you found is a couple of the great truths in fishing.

1.  Pretty much any lure will work, some better than others.

2. Locals have their favorites.

fish what you have confidence in and enjoy yourself.

I've tried swivels, and they help a lot, but they don't totally eliminate the twist, for me at least.  I use spinners mostly on moving water, so if the twist gets bad, I cut the lure off and let the current un-spool my reel.  It untwists just like it would if you let the line out from a moving boat.

I 've fished with spinners since the day I began fishing for trout more than 3 decades ago, when I moved to troutless country I found out they worked on bass too ( and don 't come telling me I should have known cuz where I lived there were no bass and my only fishing experience was limited to trout ) so if it works I 'll use it.

In line spinner size is important, avoid sizes 0, 1 & 2 for bass fishing, 3 size are good, 4 & 5 size are better.

The regular Vibrax you find in most places is a mid depth runner because of the Indiana blade.

Well I am glad to see I am not the only person who has heard of them. I just wish I did not have to get oyut of the area or always go online to buy 'em. Here Walmart is like the only one who carries any of them and they have a real small selection.

Maybe I can harass one of the local shops to give 'em a try. I even nailed a nice catfish on one last month.
