I had a bunch of the Wobblers until somebody got into my boat while I was eating breakfast before a tournament and cleaned my crankbait arsenal out. I was looking on some websites and found a WEC Zoom Z1 that looked similiar to the Wobblers I had. Has anyone had any experience with the two enough to tell if they are similiar? Also where are you getting your WEC baits?

The Z1 is a Bagley B1 or B2 type of I remember right.   The Wobbler is more of a Killer B2s-sized plug (but not at all similar to the Bagley).  

The Wobblers are a unique bait - you aren't going to have a fun time trying to track down a bait with the exact same action.  Those baits are tight and have a very quick roll compared to the typical round bodied crank.  

Since Zoom quit making them, the price has gone nutty for those things.  Expect a bidding war and $40+ if you catch one on eBay.  

I get most of my Zooms from Peeper's Baits or Simmon's store on EBay.    

That really sucks! Keep a eye out at the local pawn shops or someone posting them on ebay from your area? Personally I cannot catch anything on Zoom cranks :-[ If you have not tried them yet look into the Lucky Craft RC series at BPS. The RC 1.5 has been my best crank for two years in a row.

I've got a Z1.  It is actually about the size of a bandit 100.   It is shorter than the Wobbler, and has a shorter and skinnier lip.  It is a tight wobbler and has a ticker rattle installed.  I think bubba jacks has some right now...I need to order a couple.  Great bait...

For $18 I could get a lucky craft. Or pretty much anything else.

Zoom's are a bargain; much more time and craftsmanship go into them versus a lucky craft.  I love my lucky crafts, but custom wood crankbaits have a special place in my heart.  Man do they ever work...and work well.  You won't know until you buy one.  Lots more lucky crafts are thrown when compared to custom wood baits, and the bass respond according.  Custom cranks are like that little out-of-the-way restaurant you only get to visit every so often.  Bass think they are a delicacy.  

Lucky Craft doesn't make a crankbait that acts like a Wobbler.  

Different baits for different conditions.  

Zoom cranks excel at subtlety......tight actions that appeal to pressured or inactive fish.

The Wobbler kicks a little tighter, rolls a little quicker, and dives a little deeper than 90% of the baits made in that style.   It's a shame Ed decided to stop making it.        

I don't know how many times I've nailed fish on a Hicky or Z-Flat while my partners threw aggressive-action crankbaits and never got a bite.

Rob Cochran at Jaw Jacker built me a little round bait that I've been diggin on a lot lately.  Not really the same vibe as the Wobbler.....but definitely a serious keeper.

 

There's so many killer cranks out there right now........it's a great time to be a fan!  

No offense at all to LC but a Zoom bait will eat the LC's lunch at times!  I have a bunch of the Hickey's (Insert comment here) and they are my absolute favorite crankbait.  The RC is a strong runner in that pack but no production crankbait will hold a candle against a good hand made bait like Zoom.  

They got my Zoom baits almost a year ago and I still haven't found one (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg).  I lost 3-4 Wobblers and 8-10 Z-Flats along with all my production LC's and other stuff.  Nothing worse than a theif!

If you are looking for some more Wobblers, I have some. Its probably the last batch Ed's going to make. They have Micarta (computer board) bills instead of the lexan. I have 3 colors: Ayu, Chart/Blue Back, and Sunfish. The Ayu and Sunfish are the first of these colors Ed's made. I live in Gastonia, so at least we're close.

For a custom that is a steal I thought they were mass produced. Sorry Bro.

You're darn right they are a steal.  Just compare them to what Brian's Bee's go for.

Yeah and in my opinion the Zoom is a much better bait.
