Tournament and hardcore fishermen....

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I have a question for those of you that tournament fish and/or spend a lot of time on the road when fishing.

Do you take any kind of nutritional supplements?

If so what do you use?

Where do you buy it and in what quantities?

I consider a healthy diet important. I don't do anything different on the road except maintain my healthy diet. I've recently switched to decaf coffee and won't drink pop on the boat, rather Gatorade. Keeps my body feeling better, thus, fish more comfortably.

Welcome aboard!

I eat well balanced meals and do not take supplements.

I don't eat while i'am on the water. I do drink plenty of fluides and tomato juice.

Not saying this is for everyone but that is how I have trained myself.

I'm ashamed to admit I do not eat on the water either.  I just get so focused that I do not get hungry.  I also do not hydrate as much as I should.  I've been working on a checklist for what I pack before tournaments and one of the things I've added to the list is granola bars.

Just FYI, Gatorade has alot of sodium... which can dehydrate you.  There's no substitute for good ole fashioned bottled water!!

As for supplements, I'm with everyone else... I just eat a healthy diet and dont take supplements.  In about 10 years I might be taking geratol or something but other than that, no :)  A nice hearty, healthy breakfast can get you through the day easier.  You might be surprised to know that the meal you eat the night before will have more of an impact on you than anything you eat that day.

A six pack of Dolly Madison and a large black coffee from the Quik Stop ;)

After the sixties ended, taking supplements was never the same

This year I quit smoking, stopped eating fast food (I was eating a lot of it!), no more junk food (sodas, sweets) and I take the following:

Daily:

Omega 3

Vitamin C (2000mg)

CLA

Creatine

Glutamine

And of course multi-vitamins.

This and some light excercise; Ive lost 50 pounds since December and more is coming. My fishing (physically and mentally) has changed dramatically from getting in shape.

I don't eat on the water and half of the time I hardly drink anything either.  I  know that it is really bad.  I about paid for it at a tournament  last month.  I worked till about 12:30 at night and went home loaded up for the drive.  Eat a small breakfast before take off.  I didn't eat or drink anything till after weight in on top of having no sleep.  By that time it was almost to late I about passed out on the way home.
