Won our first tourny!

Featured Replies

My partner and I won our first club tournament together!  The tournament launched out of the Occoquan River on the Potomac.  My partner won the spring tournament at this location with his wife.  We were able to win it on Saturday.  We were catching them in on ribbon tail rubber worms.  Our total weight was 14lbs, 10oz.  My partner caught the big fish of the tourny 4lbs, 14 oz.  It was great to win one finally!  If I could just figure out how to beat the guys on my home lake one week!

The first win is always so memorable; congratulations 8-)

My first was 35 yrs ago; remember it like it was yesterday  ;)

Awesome job Tpayne!  What did your partner catch the hog on?  Wish the Occoquan was that nice to me.  It's the most consistent place I fish but I never manage the big ones.  Biggest has only been 2lbs there skipping a weightless worm under a dock.  I plan on working a bit harder on my structure fishing there, and going for deeper water at least for the rest of these hot months here.  Hopefully I can put together some patterns up there like you guys did.  Job well done guys, keep it coming!

Geez Catt...thats pretty cool.  You were like 20 yrs old then??  I didn't win my first tourney until I was 31 yrs old.  It was the 3rd or 4th tourney I ever fished and I did it from the back of the boat.  Never forget that 1st one, always sticks in your craw don't it? ;D

Thanks for the support!  I have another tournament on Aquia this weekend.  It probably will be crowded!

Good luck this weekend T-Payne, grab a nice bag for me as I won't be able to get out on the water this weekend... freshwater that is. Will be down at a beach house in NC at Kittyhawk enjoying a weekend on the beach with my fiancee. Although you know we have to fish somehow. We will be out on the Avalon Pier doin' some saltwater fishing hopefully pullin' up blues, croaker, spot, and flounder. We shall see.

Let me know how you do buddy. Aquia's grass can always be kind if you hit the right part at the right time. You planning on staying within Aquia or gettin' around to other areas as well?  I hear frogs were doin' pretty well around there this summer, buzzbaits in the early morning hours as well.  I would probably pitch jigs into the grass the majority of the afternoon if I were out there.  Though I haven't been to successful on the Potomac so... Tight lines.

Congrats on your first win. I still have my first trophy,

just don't know were the wife hid it. She said I run all our guest off talking about it all the time. And that also was thirty five years ago. ;D
