A buddy of mine (who you may know from this forum) has joined a bass club.  He's fished one tournament so far and said he had fun.  He asked me if I wanted to join and I responded by saying I would sit  out this season and wait for his overall assessment.  Anyway, that's gotten me thinking:

Is it unusual (or possibly even unheard of) that a bass club conduct tournaments where the only prize is "braggin' rights?"  Or perhaps just a trophy that you get to display until you are unseated?  Has anyone ever tried it?  Would it attract any interest or is a cash prize the primary allure for most people who fish tournaments?

There are many small clubs where fishing, not money is the focus.  In our club, the money is minimal, $40/boat.  The cash just keeps it a competition.  If you win, you get your gas money back.

My club is pretty much the same as J's.  We have a $10 entry fee that everybody pays.  Then there's Big Fish and Mystery Angler which is basically a raffle.  Those are $5 each.  If you want to be in the running for the money, it's $30 and we pay out to the top 5 who put in for that pot.

Our club charges 25/5 per member or guest. It ain't enough to matter. We are all fishing for bragging rights.

I would fish a set up like that if the people I am in the club with was willing to share information.  It sounds like it would a great way to have some fun and learn a few things.
